What I don't get is the styling change of the 42" ED. The new HD sets all look good (at least in the pictures), with nice black surrounds and less of the tacky silver plastic. The ED, though, looks awful imo. Are they trying to fit in with the cheapest imports, or make it look like you're getting a much nicer set for your HD money? Maybe they're hoping nobody will buy the thing, so they can phase it out.

...or maybe it's just me, and the rest of the world thinks it looks fine.

Any other opinions?

I'm with You, PerryU...I like the looks of all the new units EXCEPT the 42" ED. I could not bring myself to put that in my TV cabinet even if it has a superior picture to the PX50/PX500 . Why must the continually mess with the exterior styling? Are they just bored?

I am totally with you PerryU and Tomboyter, I was all set on getting the new 42 ED model but I hate the looks of it so now I have no idea what to get now. If they would just copy the look of the HD I would be all over it.

I for one am glad they moved the speakers for the 2005 42" ED model from the sides to underneath. The existing ED is too wide for me. I like the styling of the current JVC ED with the black/silver and speakers on the bottom - not sure what to think of the all silver ED Panny. I am not too impressed with the current all silver ED Sony.

I agree with you there, jcpzero... speakers on the bottom, if you have to have them at all! :D

BB will allow you to pre order the 42 inch ED until today(3/5/05). The SKU number is 7006134. If they type that in the computer, the "sale " price will come up.

Cheers,

Matt
