Everything looks good. Been running the break in DVD for about 24 hours now and DVD player and TV are nice and cool. I guess it does not put much strain on the DVD player to display those solid colors. Same for the TV because the brightness is dialed down to -5.

I'm having the same problem as many others, freezing at 28 seconds, using an LG BH100.

Has anyone found a solution other then using a different DVD player?

What settings should I use for breaking in a Panasonic 42" (TH-42PZ77U) using the break in dvd with a mac mini?

Thanks.

I couldnt get my Nero 6 to burn the NRG file but it did the ISO file on DVD. When I put it in a dvd player with a tube tv , it is white with black bars at the top and bottom . I just ordered my Pro-150FD so its not hand to test with it. Do you think I did the disc right and will the bars go away on the Pioneer?

I posted this in the Kuro settings' thread but it might be better suited here.

1. i'm going to start running the Break In disc, should I leave the factory settings or adjust it to settings D-Nice posted in the start of the thread? or does it even matter?

2. Should the DVD player output it to 720p or 1080p? I assume 1080p is fine, its just that the Break In thread was started in 2005 and Evangelo2's set was 720p.

3. Is there a ballpark time frame to run the disc? I watched baseball last night and I'm dying to watch a movie tonight but would like to squeeze in a few hours of burn-in first. Will I be OK if I run the disc for 3-4 hours some days and 7-8 hours on others until I hit the 200 hour mark?

*and a BIG thanks to RomanInvision for selling me the Kuro, he gave me the best quote and it arrived incredibly fast! Definite pleasure doing business.

Has anyone else noticed a very faint rolling horizontal flicker on the brightest white screen? It's pretty faint and only noticeable on the brightest white screen (the first screen when you start the DVD) but I'm just wondering if my set may have a weak power supply or something or if others have noticed this at all on their TVs.

Thanks!

jkozlow3,
Is it just the first white screen or the subsequent white screens throughout the disc? Do your have your set calibrated or at least your picture settigs turned down from the factory settings?

It's pretty much only noticeable on the brightest white screen (but it happens every time the bright white screen appears - not just the 1st time).

I have the settings cranked way down. Do you think that the power supply could be getting strained too much on the bright white segments?

I downloaded the ISO yesterday and burned it using Nero but it would not burn to a DVD saying that it required a CD instead. So I just burned it to a CD but the whole color gradient is done in 3 seconds before it starts over. Right now the DVD player is just hooked up via RCA cables as my new cables have not yet arrived, but I wouldnt think that would matter, any help is appreciated, I would love you know ASAP so I can run it through the night.

Hello all...first post. I downloaded this the otder day, and have about 20 hours logged on my new panny 58" 750u. So far so good...I guess. I am going to try a regular DVD tonight to see if anything is thrown off, but so far it is working well.

Thank you for a great break-in DVD!

I am running it on a 4+ yr old Sony Progessive Scan DVD Player...nothing fancy.

I have my Panny set to: -10 Brightness.

I fast forwarded my disc to 45:00 minutes to check it repeating and it started over at that point. Will it continue to start over everytime, if I choose to marathon it and do the 150 hours straight?

The disc (DVD version) is designed to play for 24 hours.
After that the disc is done playing.

Hello All!
I'm eagerly awaiting my Panny 50PZ700 which arrives tomorrow and was thinking how to break-in the plasma but without using any dvd players, since the ones I got are my power hungry PS3 and my laptop, and wouldn't want them getting the abuse of the plasma's break in. I just remembered that this model comes equipped with an SD-Card Slot and an integrated Photo Gallery Player (kinda dangerous combination for a Plasma, huh) which I wonder if it would be possible to create an equivalent of the burn in disk with just plain color "pictures" and playing them on loop through the gallery slideshow. I know I should have checked the set's online manual regarding said integrated capability, and will do so immediately, but just wanted to hear any suggestions or opinions if it would work, and how to create the images (guess even M$paint would do the trick)
Thanks in advance!

If you can get a slideshow to play then that idea should work just as good as the burn in disc. The images are just standard 16x9 ratio images that are solid colors. I made the colors pure red/green/blue and white with different liuminance levels. Good luck.

Where is the science behind this actually working?
Evangelo2's Avatar Evangelo2 10:25 PM 11-01-2007
A plasma TV is most prone to burn in durring its first 100 hours. This was documented by plasma manufacturers in a white paper a while ago. The idea behind the break in period and dvd is to age the phosphours evenly for the first 100 hours (burn them in or break them in ). After that they are much less prone to permenant image retention due to less difference in how bright they are. Thats a very rough quick explanation.

just checked out the Toshiba HD-A3's specs out at Toshiba's web site & it shows that the player will play DVD-R. has anyone used the break-in DVD-R w/ the HD-A3? Thanks.

Hi! I can't seem to tell from windows media center how long the dvd will play for. I downloaded the VTS files and when I inserted the disc, WMC "took over" and started playing the dvd. Will it still play for 24 hours? How can I tell; I've never really used WMC, much more used to windvd (which isn't on the new compute rI bought) .. Thanks!

HI
I got a Pioneer 5040HD Plasma. I just downloaded and burn the DVD+R onto this disc. Right not I have it running in my PS3. Is that a good idea or not or should i use another dvd player. During the break in process do i leave the tv on and how long is it going to take. Will it shorten the life of the plasma.

I played it on my pc, and the time was showing 44 minutes. I don't know if it automatically restarts itself. I guess I'll have to wait the 44 minutes.

just wanted to confirm this disk plays various colors for x amount of minutes then shifts to another color?

In Nero, you can burn it as a CD image or a DVD image instead. All you have to do is when you double click on the ISO file then Nero Burning Rom starts up, on the top left there is a drop down window that by default it is set to CD. All you have to do is select DVD instead in that window and it will burn a DVD image. I just tried it and it works.

Thanks I downloaded the trial version and burned the DVD. I made the adjustments on my Pioneer Pro 110FD as per Dnice for break-in DVD. So now I got it running. Anything else I need to do?

Thanks.

I've been using this dvd to break in a new lg 50pc5d, thanks for posting it! I probably have about 50 hours logged but the image retention is still terrible when anything bright comes up...ie the menu panel. I can clearly read the words for a few minutes after they're gone if the screen is left on a solid color, so I hope this starts to go away with more hours logged. The display model at BB doesn't do this so maybe I'll get there eventually.

Skimmed through this thread and couldn't find any suggestions(I'm sure it's somewhere so sorry for the repeat ?), but what level of contrast and brightness levels should be used during the break in period? I think I have mine set around 20% of the maximum. Thanks.

I just bought the same plasma. Any ideas on the settings to run the break in yet?
