My office has a budget of $1400 for a flat panel TV for the weight room. We would like a 42", but the usual suspects, Panny 60U and Samsung 4253, are about $150 more than that.

We really don't need any special features since it is for a weight room and there want be much interaction with the TV other than channel changing. I think they are not even going to have high def programming in there, so maybe EDTV would be better? Would we better off dropping down to a 37" or buying a budget 42"? Recommendations for either are GREATLY appreciated.

I just wanted to hear what the experts thought. ; )

Thanks,
Rob

Sounds like an ED panel would be pefect for your situation since it's for a weightroom and there is no HD programming. I would suggest taking a look at the Samsung SP-S4243 or Panasonic 42pd60u.

Thanks! Those were the two I had narrowed it down to. I think we're going with the ED Samsung you mentioned.

[EDIT] IMHO you'll se better black levels and ntsc processing with the Panny than the Sammy, that's why I bought one.
