Sure.

Not all rectangles are created equal.  And concepts like the beauty of electronics have never had any staying power.  Fireplaces have.  Paintings have.  Wall decorations have.  Y'know, I've seen people mount TVs over absolutely gorgeous cut field stone fireplaces!  No kidding.  Might as well mount a microwave over it.

True, all of this is under the umbrella term of taste, but I think TV's over fireplaces are like the final year of the car bra.

This is certainly a dead horse now though.  Do what you feel comfortable with (as you pointed out well).  But I have yet to see a TV mounted proudly over a fireplace that hasn't made me wonder: "what's so impressive about a TV to you?"

People don't mount them in an attempt to be "impressive" - if that's what you think you're arguing the wrong thesis.

Last I checked, people don't stare at a microwave for hours on end. Actually, people don't even stare at fires for hours on end. They do, however, stare at TV's for hours on end.

What's practical again?

Looks GREAT cool.gif

The biggest challenge with above the FP is component placement. It is nice having shelves on the side for that smile.gif

Thanks! Yes the wife being happy is always a good thing. Another good thing is it's out of reach of small dirty hands. wink.gif
