I've located a Dish 5000 (refurb) for $160.
Can it be used with a modulator to allow me to connect to hipix and record HDTV?

The info :
5000rr
$ 159.00
5000 Receiver and Remote (Factory Refurbished)
The original model 5000 Receiver and Remote with integrated Off-Air channels included in the Guide Menu. Caller ID, UHF Controlled, IR Blaster and Event Timers.

Yes, the dish depot refurbs will work just fine with the modulator.

The 5000's themselves are relatively easy to find, even though they are discontinued. The problem will be the HD Modulator.
