I see that people are successfully archiving their DVR recordings with CAPDVHS. Is there an equivalent program available for the Mac? I can't wait to hook up to my Motorola DCX 3400 and offload some of these shows.

Yes, I use the Mac, with AVCCapture. It can be downloaded in the SDK from Apple. There's a thread here about it.

Thanks, I saw the link from one of the forum members who posted the app directly, so I downloaded it and it's on my desktop now. I couldn't find a link to the latest version 25 via Apple's SDK kit, so hopefully this works.

Hey guys

I can't seem to successfully open/record Recorded recordings on my Motorola DVR (DCT 3412 Phase III) using AVCVideoCap - I can do live shows but I can't get recorded recordings.. which is what I need

Any help Anyone?

If they are not flagged copy-freely, then they are encrypted and useable.

There was a bug ~ 5 years ago that caused those Motorola DVR's to behave this way...live TV could be FireWire captured, but DVR recordings could not. It's been quite a while since that was an issue, so I highly doubt that it's the cause of your problem. I think qz3fwd is on the right track...your recordings may be protected and therefore not allowed to be FireWire captured. If they are from premium channels such as HBO or Showtime, they are guaranteed to be protected (those companies now require the cable companies to protect those channels and they will pull their channels from cable companies that fail to do so.)

Also, if you are on Time Warner cable, basically every channel is protected and can therefore not be FireWire captured (the Over-The-Air broadcast channels are not protected, but most cable channels are.) If you are on Comcast, most channels can be FireWire captured except for the premium channels and the on-demand channels.

If you can provide more information about your setup/cable company, we may be able to narrow in on the issue. One alternative to FireWire captures is to use a device such as a Hauppauge HD-PVR (or Colossus) or the Black Magic Intensity Pro.

AVCVideoCap should show copy freely/copy never/copy once in the GUI. It can change dynamically over time, though it usually stays constant.

Comcast seems to flag everything copy freely except HBO/Skinemax/other premium channels as well as on-demand.
