When my Panasonic TU-DST51A digital decoder was hooked up to my Panasonic PV-HD1000 D-VCR via the firewire cable the display indicated the D-VCR was “NOT PRESENTâ€.

Thanks to suggestions from you guys I checked the firewire sockets on both the STB and the recorder with a magnifying glass and one of the pins broke away from the socket in the STB.

Gridleak and others suggested replacing the socket myself, but I was too chicken. So I sent the unit to Elgin, Illinois for repair. The turn-around time was 7 weeks. Yep, 7 long weeks! I went through HD withdrawal!

The repair summary:

DV Jack (VJJ0568)..............7.65
S-Panel (TNP2AA039S)......324.04

Labor.................................50.00
Parts..................................331.69 \ t
Shipping.............................30.00
Total...................................411.69 Yikes!

To those in the know... What’s an “S-Panel And Gridleak... If I tweak my pin again can I bring it over to your place for a lesson in repair???

Wow! I fixed a broken firewire socket on one of my TU-DST51s last March for about $2.50 at Fry's and an hour fiddling at home.

Larry... bring decent wine.

BTW, the S-board is the ATSC tuner. It's over $400 on the panny website, so you did ok if the tuner was weak.
