As the availability of primetime and sports HDTV increases I am finding myself having to make decisions on which show to watch live based only on which would look best on HDTV, rather than watching time shifted shows via my SVHS or Replay units. So, I have started looking at D-VHS recorders but apparently they do not allow you to watch say HD That's Life, while you also record Once and Again in HD? Do they? If not, what option do we have with recording while watching OTA HDTV?

You could buy two OTA HD tuners and dedicate one to your recorder. Expensive, but if ya' gotta' have it...

To this point, the OEMs have held the HD tuners at a high premium. They haven't built them into recorders yet, but PVRs announced at CES will have embedded HD tuners--at least one will supposedly have two. I hadn't heard that any new VCRs were announced.

That's how I've been doing with my W-VHS HD recording; use an HD100 to record into it and watch other shows with an old DTC100 while I'm recording; the new dual-tuner item that you mention displayed at CES certainly looks a better propect though...!
