I've converted the bcdmux utility program I wrote to a very nice windows utility called HDTVtoMPEG2. This program, like bcdmux, automatically converts HiPix HDTV files to DVD player compatible MPEG2 files. Unlike bcdmux, it is easy to use and has a nice progress meter, etc.

Temporary ftp for "HDTVtoMPEG2.zip": ftp://67.166.245.50/

I have a hacked version of Vidomi that will encode hidef files to .divx, and I will make that available as soon as it is tested.

Thanks.

Anyhow.. enjoy.

This program uses comctl32.dll in Windows XP. If you have trouble, please tell me.

Ben,
I have used your new program and BCDMUX and am having the same problem. It seemed to work fine with some 1080i content from CBS, but it just gives me an empty file when I try 480p FOX content. No errors and it seems to convert but I get nothing.
Not only is the FOX content 480p, but FOX here is 44-2, the second channel. What do you think might be the problem?

Just curious.
What happens once you get it to DVD format can you play it back on DVD or just use it as an archive or what?

You can play it back with a Windows DVD player software, and use it as an input file to Vidomi .divx converter or FlaskMPEG, etc.

Tested DVD players:

Ravisent CineplayerDVD 4.0 - Plays ok
PowerDVD - Doesn't play video
WinDVD 3 - Seems to be the best player (as far as I know)
ATI Player with Radeon - Plays at full speed for most folks

You can save a HiPix file to a DVD-R, and play it back on your computer. It won't play back on a DVD player because DVD players don't play High-Def video.

Gergg,

It's using a different channel number. To be honest, I used the program bbdemux.exe to have it scan the file for the pid's before converting. I will put the scan function in HDTVtoMPEG as soon as i can. For right now, just try 0x21/0x24, then 0x31/0x34, etc. until it works. Sorry.

I tried up to 0x41 with no success. Any chance it would be higher?

Yup. Stations can pick any stream id they want.

Try grabbing the bbtools.zip and run bbdmux on it to see what is in it.

If I use Ben's utility v1.07 to move my HiPix files to DVD-R, can I then just play back those DVD-Rs on my stand alone DVD player such as the Panasonic RP-91?

Not without a lot more work and probably not if they are higher than 480p.
