After CES 2002, I was wondering the collective ball park estimate of when we might see a HD Directv Tivo device, and or when we might actually be able to purchase the E* HD PVR 931?

That being said I am still looking at W-VHS deck's as an alternative. I was wondering how many times you can record over a W-VHS tape?

I've recorded many times (i.e. 30 +) on one tape I have, which I use for recording CSI etc if I'm not around that evening. That being said, I believe that W-VHS recording tapes are more fragile than their D-VHS counterpart; store upright, rewind after use, etc (things you would also say to do with D-VHS, but actually seems to make a noticeable affect on the recording s I have). Of course, you need to buy a dual direction winder. I just wish the price of the tapes were closer to $10 for a three hour instead of 3x that.

The PVR for E* was set to begin selling in Fall 2002.

The PVR plus a JVC HD DVHS VCR will cost you less and perform better with full DD5.1 capability than the WVHS and the tape costs will be far less. IMO, wait! But this will not be for HDNet but who knows, by then DTV may be E*. :|
