If you're referring to the blue laser technology that was demoed by many mfg's at CES, they all were saying about 2 years away.
I liked the Panasonic version best. It seemed to have the most robust system as far as record capacity.

... which was actually demoed at CES two years ago (Pioneer & Zenith) also.

As far as the current Pioneer DVD recorder it does not record HD. Check out the DVD Hardware forum.
