I'm glad everyone is excited about the JVC movie development.
But thats probally because I don't own one. Before we all go
party, existing owners SHOULD READ THE PRESS RELEASES:

"Only D-VHS players equipped with the new D-Theater circuitry will be able to play movies in high-def. Earlier machines, without the system, will play older VHS cassettes but can't decode encrypted high-def cassettes."

Sorry to be a spoilsport.

I really don't know where you're coming up with these statements, but IF you HAD purchased a unit, you would have seen in big letters the words "D-theater" on the box!!!

I seriously doubt there will be a problem with a D-theater deck playing back a D-theater tape!!!

I think he means that the Japanese 30000 will not play back D-Theater tapes, which is correct

I was just quoting you what JVC said:

"Only D-VHS players equipped with the new D-Theater circuitry will be able to play movies in high-def. Earlier machines, without the system, will play older VHS cassettes but can't decode encrypted high-def cassettes."

What were they referring to ? Other peoples machines ?

I think that what people are saying is that the new HM-DH30000U (emphasis on the "U"), released in the US this past Fall, has this system in it. See this page at JVC's US site, which has a bulleted item reading:
Quote:
D-Theater compliant with the advanced D-VHS security system
-- Mike Scott

This is not rocket science. The 30000U will play them and the 30000 will not.

Of course it would help if JVC fixed the firmware on the 30000U so that the freezing problem will go away.

What about the new Japanese JVC 3500? It can be imported directly from Japan, now.

35000 from Japan also wont play d-theator tape. We tried.
If it doesnt say d-theator, it wont play. Just like if a machine says vhs, it wont play a beta tape.
