I'm all for the tuning and browsing speed improvements I've heard about, but want to ask about picture quality.
Our region hasn't had any 8640HDCs for a couple of months - I'm guessing they are all shipping to regions with multi-room DVR. So, I brought home an SA 8300HDC while I wait for them to come in.
I value picture quality highly, both HD and SD, including HD to SD down-conversion to s-video - for standalone DVD recording (Sony RDR-GX7s).
From my extensive A/B compares, the SA 8300HDC beats the SA 8300 at SD output, and HD to SD down-conversion is better yet. How is the 8640HDC's picture quality?
I know this is all digital, but every box has its own settings, compression rates, gamma, etc. Does anyone know if there is an equivalent to Sony's service menu for any TW DVR for calibration?
