Reading the thread on using the PC to control a HD video recorder got me and some other people thinking. Why not use the PC as the recorder? I know in the past there have been hints and suggestions about this. With the new information concerning XP and firewire, can this be done? I have a DST50 and would love to use my computer as the VCR. Any idea's?

John,

I've been working on project to do just that. It's too early to "count the chickens" but let's just say if this works the Panasonic HD1000 is going to drop in value on ebay.

AVS forum will be the first to know when it's ready.

Any updates on this? I can pick up a DST50 for $250.00 (floor model).

Kipp,

No updates yet - sorry:( I'm working through the different firmware version issues on the DST50.

$250 for a floor model is not a bad price. If things don't work out, you could sell it on e-bay for at least $350.
