Hi,

Since we don´t have HDTV here in Europe, i am looking for the cheapest way to playback recorded D-VHS HDTV Tapes.

The Machine should have optical or coax output for Dolby Digital and YUV Output (analog) for connection to my Projector.

Any suggestions what the best unit would be ?

Thanks
Take care
Thomas

Thomas- There is no YUV standard for HDTV. That is an SD standard. See if your projector will do RGBHV at 34Khz Horizontal scan as this is what would be required for 1080i HDTV. The JVC DVHS recorder should work for your needs.

Hi,

Since the JVC is quite high priced, isn´t it possible to playback D-VHS HDTV Tapes with ever other D-VHS machine (like mitsubishi for example).

AFAIK HDTV OUtput is 3xRCA - korrekt ?

Thanks,
Take care
Thomas

The only VCR which will support the forthcoming D-Theater pre-recorded tapes is the US JVC 30000U. It has YUV and optical digital outputs.

It's shortcoming seems that it has audio drops and image freezes with tapes made with Panasonic gear like the DST51.

The Japanese 30000 and 35000 models also have audio drops, but no image freeze problem. They won't play the D-Theater tapes.

Yes. The output can be Y, Pr, Pb as one choice. The other would be firewire for HDTV. Technically, this is not YUV, but a similar form for HDTV or progressive scan DVD.

The lower price on the Mitsubishi will not get you what you are looking for. It is a firewire only I/O.
