Due to recent demand, I have decided to start an informative thread on which drives do and do NOT work as replacements for the retail Moxi boxes (not the chartered cableco boxes). As anyone who has had experience doing this process can attest, it can be a lengthy and immensely frustrating exercise.
Please contribute with the following:
Your equipment, ie. whether it's the 2 or 3 tuner model. Please do not post that it's a MR-1500T3 box, because both units (for no good reason) use the exact same model #
The hard drive model # and specs (Manufacturer, capacity, RPM, cache size)
**Edit** You may also want to include whether this was tested as an internal or external hard drive. Depending on the model, the same unit may work one way but not another.
Things took a turn for the worst this weekend. My MOXI will not longer update the program guide. I have tried multiple times and have verified the internet connection is working. Anybody else having this problem? Any advise. My program guide reaches the end on 2-12-19.
Really glad I was able to find a forum with other people like me, who want to keep their Moxi's for life! Unfortunately, I didn't see this forum until it was too late. Had I seen it earlier, I would have cloned my hard drive and had backups like many have suggested.
Upon Moxi startup, my system hangs on Starting Moxi Services...
Unplugging the system failed. The 4 key press failed. I bought a used Moxi on Amazon, but it would freeze whenever we tried to access the Premium channels. The cable company told me it was due to outdated firmware, so I returned it.
Then I tried to rescue the software data from the drive- there was none visible. The drive runs and is accessible, but is either corrupted or formatted with FAT? Should I try to clone it anyway and see if it works?
I would rather try writing the software to one of my old drives, but I couldn't find a download mirror for it anywhere. Does anybody know if the software exists somewhere? Otherwise, might be in the market for a cloned drive!
I appreciate any info. Thank you!!!
PS. Looks like Silicon Dust Prime 6 might be a good replacement, sometime in 2019. Thoughts?

I like your enthusiasm! I posted the software a few months back in the moxi hd dvr forum here but no one has figured out a way to install it yet. I tried putting it on a usb flash drive formatted in multiple ways and inserting it in the front usb port without luck. It would be nice if someone could figure out how to install since the network download isn't working at this time. The hard drive is encrypted and unfortunately you are unable to use a hard drive from another moxi because it will constantly reboot after the moxi logo from my trial and error.
Guys I have given up the ghost on trying to fix my box. Like a few others have posted, the software is not longer accessible. Before I retire it to local strip down shop, is anyone interested in the unit for the mother board or other parts. Everything worked perfectly before the drive died and the exterior front face is as new. Let me know.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
