Hi folks,

I am updating my system, and last night I got a really bad hum coming through my speakers while connecting the dish coax-cable to the back of the receiver. When I eliminate contact from the Dish receiver, the hum goes away, but the moment I connect the cable, the hum re-appears.

The cable for the speakers and the Dish come through the same "hole in the wall," and I can't isolate or move the DISH cable away from the speaker cables. What have you guys done to eliminate this noise?

I use CROWN pro amps, connected with XLR cables to a Marantz AV7005. I have a ground running to the location, but it doesn't appear to remove the hum.

Thoughts? I've read about a "cheater" plug, but not sure if that will eliminate it.

You're experiancing Ground Loop - what you need to do to fix it is get all your coax cables connected to the house ground.

You CAN put antennas on your owned and/or controlled property...

Call Dish and tell them to fix the installer's problem. The Installer should have grounded the system correctly to begin with. You paid them good money, have them fix the ground problem.

And if all else fails, run a toslink cable between Dish receiver and Marantz receiver. No ground loop is possible using fiber. wink.gif

It does not fix the problem that the idiot contractor running around working for Dish created, from them not doing their job properly from the beginning.

Judging by the last two posts you have in this thread I gather you have an agenda with Dish. Let me make this very clear to you. MY Dish system has not been grounded in 14 years. I never get a hum. Many, many Dish systems are not grounded and they don't get a hum either. Hums come from ground loops and that is a household electrical system problem, not a Dish problem that a Dish installer caused. It existed before as well. It only comes up now because the OP is hooking up a new sound system from his receiver to his amp.

The toslink, if possible will correct the issue, but not the underlying problem, electrically. Something the OP might try is to make sure that the Dish receiver and the sound system are plugged into the same outlet, that might isolate it.....
