Ok, folks, I'm not a tech wiz. I have a VIP722K dish dvr box. I attached a seagate external hard drive, but its only 320gb, so I have bought a 1tb wd elements hard drive. I was hoping to transfer my recordings from the seagate to the elements via my computer. My computer did install the seagate device driver, but I am unable to open it to transfer the files. I have 2 questions regarding this...

1. Is there any way to transfer my recordings from the seagate to the elements via my computer?
2. If I hook up any external hard drive to the dvr will I ever be able to use it for anything else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

There might be some Linux program that allows this. But otherwise you're going to have to dump everything on the 320gb EHD to the 722K hdd and then transfer those recordings to the new EHD. Since the 722K doesn't allow direct transfers between EHD's. And the only way to reuse the hdd is to wipe it clean since the Dish dvr reformats the entire drive.

I would put the contents of the 722K on the new EHD, fill the dvr with the old EHD, then transfer that stuff to the new EHD, rinse and repeat as needed. Then put the stuff you're not going to keep back to the 722K. A royal pain in the ass.
