We have 2 Cisco 8640HDC DVRs (Time-Warner cable).

Sometimes, for our favorite shows, we schedule the same show to be recorded on both DVRs.

Even though the units and settings are identical on both units, we recently noted that there is a significant storage difference. For example, we recently recorded the same 2 HD shows on both otherwise-empty DVRs, and one shows 46% used while the other shows 4%.

What might've caused such a huge difference? Until recently, both units showed almost identical results in such situations.

I'm thinking that this is perhaps caused by the "AutoHD" Setting. I know this Setting records in HD even if you chose the non-HD version of the channel in question, but why would AutoHD require so much more DVR storage compared to 1080?

Does the 1080 Setting use less DVD space than AutoHD does? Would we notice any difference in picture quality?

Thanks for any help!

Best to post in the dedicated "Navigator" thread.
Sounds as one is recording both versions and the other is not.

Free, abundant OTA television separates this country from many others. ATSC1 has only been in force since 2009. The wireless industry has enough spectrum. Enough of 'planned obsolesce'.

Do they both have the same size hard disk? Go into the diagnostics and check your hard disk size.
