transfering recorded shows to DVD

So...got the new X1 a while back and the first box was DOA due to the internal HDMI connector not working...sigh...all day with several techs, no joy. then got the wild idea to try hooking it up via the RWY plugs...worked.
Took it back to comcast for new one which works fine.

skip to yesterday when I tried to transfer some of the 9\11 programs I had recorded that day to DVD...no joy.
It seems, even using the RCA plugs (SD) I can no longer get any video to my Mag recorder...do get sound either through the RW plugs or the optical line, just no vid.
However, if I run directly from the x1 to the Yamaha to a SD input I get both sound and vid...but cannot get this out to the recorder.

Old HD box was connected to my receiver via S-video and RW plugs directly to the Mag ZV427MG9 A and has always worked great. The Mag is connected via HDMI to my RXV-673.
Is this recorder perhaps too old to work with the new box? I get sound but no vid going from the x1 to the Mag then to the receiver.
I've tried hooking it to one of the SD channels on the RXV-673 but can't figure out how to then get the signal to the Mag

anyone else have this issue?
Not finding anything of use on the comcast site 'community'.

Old connection:
Comcast HD DVR box to Mag via S-video/RW input (L-1)
out from Mag to Yamaha via HDMI
Was able to record a nice SD signal.

X1 only has the 3 SD connections so used them in the same manor as before.

What are the best video setting for the X1 playing trough my AVr to my 4k TV? I selected 1080P and for zoom I selected none.

I'm asking because today I had some horizontal banding during a high speed action scene during a movie on HBO. Making sure it's not an issue with my settings.

If you have a Full 1080p tv or 4K set set it to 1080p and leave Zoom off. This is how I have my X1 DVR set up this way and I see no banding at all. If you see banding it's not your box.

I see that that this Fall the X1 system will gain access to Netflix, complete with voice search. I use an Amazon Fire TV box but its' voice search does not work with the Netflix app.

Received that email as well. They're also supposed to be releasing an app for Roku that will remove the necessity for extra boxes. Looks like Comcast is making some good moves.

I suspect all of this is at least partially motivated by Comcast fighting the FCC opening up the cable set-top box market to other suppliers besides the cable companies. They want to be able to say they offer everything you need in their boxes and don't have to go elsewhere so the FCC proposals are unnecessary.

Sounds good but I'm willing to bet that my Roku 4 box will still give me better picture and audio quality than Comcast will with its compressed signals. I doubt that Comcast will be sending out Netflix content with Dolby Digital Plus audio. It will likely be the standard DD 5.1. I've always found DD+ to be better. Voice search works very well on the X1 system and the Rokus. The Rokus will search through all of its streaming channels and X1 will search through its own network which will now include Netflix so each has something to offer. It could come down to a question of convenience. I have my Roku running through my Denon AVR using either HDMI pass through when it isn't on turning the AVR on when I want full surround sound. It's not any kind of inconvenience doing it that way but we'll see how X1 handles Netflix. For most X1 subscribers, watching Netflix via Xfinity will probably be the way to go.

Not only are they adding Netflix but Hulu down the road as well. Also they are working on integrating Dolby Atmos as well which they already have some trailers and a full length episode of Black Sail's in Atmos. So Comcast IS headed in the right direction in my opinion. They are playing the wait and see game now on 4K but I'm sure they will come out with some dedicated 4K channels down the line to satisfy the 4K people. Just give me Netflix, Hulu and Atmos and I'll be one happy as hell camper.

So, I've had the X1 box for about a month now. I still don't like the Program Guide(s). They are hard to read with white letters on black background, and there is no setting to change the appearance. I would rather have the functionality of the old Motorola box. The X1 box seems to function well, although it's still too slow to respond to the remote sometimes. Did someone mention that the X1 resets itself in the wee hours of the morning? I noticed the Xfinity Menu positions are at default setting in the morning. Does that mean if I were recording a program, either with DVR or an external device, it would give me problems? I haven't tried recording an all-nighter with an external recorder yet. Wish it would keep what is in the buffer when you hit Record.

Also, the box displays the time of day. I might prefer to have the channel #. Don't see any settings to choose. Wish there was a way to have a second channel buffering all the time so you could take a peek at it.

I probably came to the same conclusions everyone else did.

If you hit the Xfinity button on the remote and then go to the Icon that looks like a gear (far right) there is a place to change the appearance of the guide. They have three options.

Under Preferences/General there's only a background darkness level and a Guide View that you can select all channels, HD, favorites, etc. Maybe you have a different X1 box, I have an Arris. What are the three options that you have?

Preferences/General isn't the menu you'll find the 3 options to change the Guide readability .

You'll have to scroll down the list to the Comcast Labs & click that. After you've opened that list scroll down to "Guide Readability".
I found that Option 3 works pretty well for my Sony KDL 32XBR6 (but I have the X1 box running through a DVDO Edge video processor so everything coming from the X1 looks pretty exceptional)

The X1 remote is way less "user" friendly than the older Comcast remotes, but I'm absolutely thrilled that the X1 works fantastically with the Edge. The video processing "engine" inside of DVDO Edge goes a long way beyond what an X1 (or any Cable/Sat box that I've ever used) is capable of.

To be truthful though I don't really know how well the X1 works by itself. I do know, that with the configuration I'm using it in, that I can't recall having anything I'm watching that is being Broadcast look as good & rock solid as any other sourced video I may watch.

He,he,he.... Actually, it's the "Software Writer's" bad !!!

Some of us just become a little less persistent after not finding things that software writers constantly lose "sight of" why it's important to place information where a non- software writer can easily find it.

(& I've mellowed out from how I used to feel about how we're constantly "bombarded" by what the "Computer World" thinks is acceptable to "force feed" the "Literate World" with)

I finally got around to upgrading to the X1 system for my four cable boxes yesterday. I had responded to a letter from Comcast stating that three of my cable boxes would not be able to get HD sometime in November. Instead upgrading those, I told them I wanted the X1 system, also for no charge. I have one dvr box plus the three smaller satellite boxes. The installation seemed to go smoothly and took about an hour. I was disappointed that the dvr display only showed time rather than my preferred channel position. Not negotiable. I've gotten some complaints from my household that the Guide setup is confusing compared to the old setup. We'll get used to it. The voice control seems terrific.

I mainly wanted X1 because of its ability to schedule and play recordings from the satellite boxes and the greater capacity of the dvr. My main setup includes a Sony sound bar as well as the Sony PS3.

I was particularly pleased that I was able to quickly reprogram my Logitech Harmony 650 to work with this system.

I recently switched to the X1 platform and have some questions/issues I'm hoping you guys can help with:

1. Because I need a lot of storage, I went with three full X1 HD DVRs, rather than one X1 with 2 satellite boxes like XiD to access/share a X1. This works fine but presents some annoyances. For instance when I go to the list of saved programs, all shows from all X1 boxes are listed. Is there any way to see just the shows that are recorded on that particular X1?

2. Every once in a while (its happened twice so far in the one week I've had X1) when I turn on my system (Marantz 8802a feeding JVC projector, all connected to X1 and each other via 4K HDMI cables) there is no audio. The Info screen on the Marantz says the source is Unknown. I've tried switching inputs and switching back, unplugging/replugging HDMI connections and pressing the power switch on the unit off and back on, and changing the preferences from DD to Stereo and back, but nothing resolves it - still no sound. The only way I've found that fixes it is unplugging the X1 and then plugging it back in. After that the sound works just fine.

3. I am using the Harmony Elite remote which I like, but it doesn't have voice control which is probably my favorite part of X1. I assume there's no way to integrate voice search with the Harmony remote, but thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

I have three X1 DVR's. Because you have the Anyroom service, all recordings will display on all DVR's. You would have to do something really weird, like have multiple Comcast accounts for each DVR to separate them, but I doubt that would be possible. Remember that the DVR space is pooled, so you have approx 1.5TB of storage for all your recordings.

The Comcast X1 forum has a thread or two about RDK-3060 errors that are caused by non-compliant HDMI setups. I do not have your issue but my receiver is not 4k HDR.

You might try changing the X1 resolution to 1080i and let your receiver do the upconvert.

I have never seen anyone find a way to incorporate voice control in any other remote in the X1 forum.

Are you saying the audio drop out is the RDK-3060 error? How can I confirm that, as it never shows an error code - there is just no audio. At any rate, on the contrary my setup is fully HDMI compliant. The receiver and projector are HDMI 2.0 level A with HDCP 2.2 at the full 18 Gb/s speed and all the HDMI cables are full certified 4K cables. And the issue happens only occasionally. If this is indeed an HDMI type of issue then it's a bug in the X1.

Thanks!
1. There are not any viable or practical ways to separate these due to the whole home scheduling and tuner management. Trying to separate these would ultimately cause a poor experience and would disable the ability to view content from one box to another . . . defeating the purpose. Use your voice search to quickly access what you're searching for

2. There's definitely something going on with the HDCP connection in your setup. Are all of your other devices on the most current firmware? I've seen this before and it's usually a hotplug issue with HDCP. I can continue to help with this.

3. You cannot incorporate the voice commends into a third party remote . . . yet. This is currently something we are both researching and exploring.

Can anyone recommend a good IR repeater/emitter that is working well with their X1?

I have my X1 in a rack and having a hard time getting IR codes to be recognized. I'm currently trying this https://amzn.com/B00023KG40 to relay IR to the rack and its working great with my blu-ray player, receiver/prepro and other gear, but the X1 misses almost every signal even when I move the pyramid close to its IR window. So next I tried taking an old IR emitter I had laying around and plugging it into the back of the pyramid and then putting that emitter right on the IR window on the X1. In that case it works better, but still missing 3 out of every 10 commands I send, on average. For instance if I push left arrow ten times one second apart it misses 3 of those. That seems really odd. Maybe its the old, small emitter that I have. I will try another one.

Thanks!

I considered the same thing a couple years ago, ( item 1, above) but instead went with the Anyroom DVR and two Xi3 boxes. (I also had four DVRs with CC's 'old' system to allow live-TV buffering in every room.) The main reason I did not use multiple DVRs is because of the exact issue you describe......and there is no way to avoid it with the current X1 system. I will share that I have had no issues with insufficient DVR storage space in my current setup. The Xi3's allow a live TV playback buffer memory of about 30 minutes...anything longer I just record the show on the DVR.

I'll also share that with my JVC projector and an Onkyo PR-SC5508 I occasionally have HDMI synch issues with the X1 box, but changing sources fixes it. Once it synchs the first time, it is rock solid until I turn it off.

I use the X1 voice remote to control my prepro's volume, and use it almost exclusively...after I turn on the system with my old ProntoPro remote. I'd suggest using the Harmony only to turn on and off, and for other sources like a BD player, and use the X1 remote to surf, etc. when watching TV. Works great. I think it can be programmed to turn on the PJ as well.
AVGardner likes this.

I'm finding that I'm smarter than I thought, but dumber than I need to be.
