wiscojim has apparently saved a copy of 101R and made it available for download.

His post.

Hopefully enough people will download it and keep it as a retainer along with 103R.

HDD problems here too. I have experienced these glitches when playing my recorded videos. I have a USB3.0 SATA enclosure case with it's own power supply. Inside this case is a Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive which was in my last computer build. The HDD was reformatted by the DVR+ but after 20 days of recording, I experienced several "disk initialization" errors. In one case I did another HDD format since the DVR+ could not read my library of recorded files.

I installed the Windows Ext2Fsd (Ext2 File System Driver for Windows) utility so I could check the Linux Partitions and files. Both partitions appeared fine and my recorded shows were all there in partition 2. I also did the "FFMPEG" video conversion and got my video file(s) to run in both VLC Media Player and Windows Media Player.

I attempted to get the DVR+ to initialize my USB disk several times using the (1) power on/off trick, (2) CHKDSK function and (3) disconnecting the USB disk, powering on DVR+ then power down then reconnecting USB Disk. There was no sure hit or miss routine I used to get the USB Drive to initialize but I did get it working a few times. In all cases, going to the settings menu, I checked the technical selection to verify that the disk parameters were recognized and logged correctly on the boot-up. In those cases where it recognized the disk after a clean boot-up, the DVR function would not work and I would get the not able to initialize disk error.

I ordered the recommended Seagate Expansion 3TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive w/ separate enclosure and power (STBV3000100). I noticed that this is 5400RPM. I wonder if my SATA 7200RPM USB 3.0 drive had compatibility issues (even though it is USB2.0 backward compatible).

Now that I have a way to save my Video library doing a reformat is not so painful. FWIW, when I did do the reformat DVR+ command, in ALL cases my DVR recording option worked fine. But after about 10% of the disk was filled and/or about 20 days of 24/7 usage, I experienced the disk initialization issues described above. The new 3TB Seagate drive should arrive in a few days, so I hope I should resolve this particular issue.

EKS

I wonder if the issue is the 7200rpm hard drive, since mine is a 7200rpm too? Maybe 7200rpm is too fast for the DVR+ is buffer?

nope, it cannot be that way, opposite is yes
and @reacheks:
you guys should start checking a health of the drives first - connect it to PC (better directly to SATA port) and obtain SMART info by using bootable MHDD (burn CD from ISO file) or Victoria under Windows
get the SMART, run Scan wit Remap=on, get second SMART, post here - we will talk about the drive with some facts

Maybe not the speed but the need for continuous throughput of multiple AV streams. I have a media server disk farm of the same Seagate Barracuda drives but larger (ST3000DM001) and they are very fast in burst mode.

My DVR's all came with AV rated drives which are 5900 rpm drives that are made to run 24x7 with big buffers and the ability to handle multiple HD streams going in and out of the drive. If it were me with a DVR+, to add an external drive I would buy a Seagate Pipeline AV drive (what came in my TiVo Roamio) and put it in a self-powered USB enclosure for the DVR+. Others may prefer the WD AV drives which would be just as good.

S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology; often written as SMART) is a monitoring system for computer hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs)[1] to detect and report on various indicators of reliability, in the hope of anticipating failures.

Can you suggest any one of the tools listed in this link that works on Windows 7?

Comparison of S.M.A.R.T. tools and/or a link to one that you use.

And here is 102R for anyone that wants it.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/s9vf6em3gov2j5t/102R_prod_signed_usb_download.str

I suggest anyone that may ever anticipate needing it in the future should downlaod and save these now, I have no idea if CM will want me to remove it at some point.

For now, it should probably be available. You guys are doing some of the troubleshooting for them.

Have you tried (or is it possible) to connect the DVR+ to some type of "virtual" disk which is part of a NAS system? My long term plan is to run a PLEX media server connected to a NAS system (using DD-WRT) located at two different remote locations (main home & vacation home). I was going to copy the DVR+ video library periodically to the NAS system and/or to the main media server disk(s) then create new meta data (using PLEX) to update my master Plex media files.

I have not tested the DD-WRT NAS options but have flashed all my Asus RT-N66U routers located at my remote locations w/ the latest build ( DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/24/13) big). I know I can mount EXT3 disk formats and thought I could trick the DVR+ to write out the "*.ts files" to a virtual disk and/or even clone the standard Linux DVR+ disk format structure (ie. partition 1 and 2 detail formats) . Once in the NAS system, I can easily create the MPEG-2 TS Video (.ts) format using the ffmpeg converter.

I probably want to have one or more of those AV rated disks in my NAS build but for now, I am just experimenting with the different pieces so I can eventually build a seamless media server that can automatically create and update my media library.

I would recommend using the tool : http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmontools/wiki
as to your drive's health ... it's looks good, perhaps HW ECC errors could be reduced if use direct SATA cable

major minus in your report, you didn't check the drive, need run Scan with Remap=ON and pull other SMART report

WMC supports this via iSCSI and it works very nicely. I have (4) network tuners which travel to the PC and from the PC to the NAS for recording and then back to the PC for viewing and or other displays. With four recordings and several streaming concurrently the overhead never hits 10% of available network bandwidth. The iSCSI virtual drive is never taxed as well...

This link would probably be more direct:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/smartmontools/files/smartmontools/6.2/

You'll want to download smartmontools-6.2-1.win32-setup.exe.

In order to spin at 7200 RPM and still have the heads work right, all other things being equal (that pretty much means same generation of drive), they put proportionately less data on a track, so the data transfer rates work out to be about the same.  Plus, data is read off the disk into a memory buffer in the electronics of the card.  So that's not it.

And BTW, I see the glitches sometimes and I have a wall powered (UPS-powered actually) 3.5" hard drive on my DVR+.

And BTW2, I recently had the time get two minutes, and then six minutes slow.  Rebooting the DVR+ cleared that up.

last night my device would not turn on from standby.....either with the remote or front button.
Unplugged the device for 1 minute.....all okay.

This happens about once a month......not heard anyone speak to this issue.

Not sure how closely you've been following ... the time issues should go away with the next release of the firmware.

I recently had two issues I posted about here (post #3153). I wrote to Channel Master today and received these prompt replies (in the same e-mail):

(1) Somehow I was "upgraded" to 103R without my being aware it was happening--until I went into my settings in search of answers to my time delay.
CM reply: "I am sorry for the trouble you are having with the software 103R. I do know that it is not possible for us to download the new software onto your box. You would have to do that."

(2) The time started being six minutes slow, and I was missing 5-6 minutes at the beginning of each recording.
CM reply: "Now there has been a fix for this software that will be ready very soon [please define]. The time issue is known and we will make sure to get this taken care of as soon as possible [wiggle room]. This will take care of all the time issues that you are having."

What just happened: I tried fiddling with the ZIP code setting, but ended up leaving it the same. I also switched back and forth between Auto time and Manual setting, leaving time set to Auto. When I stopped messing about, the time was correct! Let's see if it stays that way.

Ah, the mysteries.

I've reported on this in the past.  About the same monthly frequency.

No offense taken.....
but..... what others (including yourself) need to realize is that:
A) This specific problem is intermittent and I frequently don't have the hours and hours that it takes to troubleshoot it.
B) Relative to A.....I've already invested many, many hours and seem to get zero credit for this on this forum (discouraging!).
C) It's a fact that these video/audio glitches have definitely occurred with a self powered EHD (several people have recently reported this). It's not an isolated incident.
D) If there was conclusive proof that these problems are related to USB powered drives,
don't you think that CM would have (at the very least) stopped recommending and selling this type of drive?
.....Just because I haven't had the time to deal with this currently and the thought of buying and returning drives doesn't exactly appeal to me (not to mention my limited budget), that's no excuse for other's here (who know who they are) to criticise and ridicule me as they have!
It's not fair, since I've invested far more time on this project (with two units, in two different locations and six different hard drives) than many others here (including perhaps the complainers)!
It's easy to sit there and delegate and/or criticize. Yes....I've been highly critical (all deservedly so) of the DVR+ but.....I've at least tried my best to help myself and others!......
Enough with the (inappropriate) complaints!
......and.....should others chose to "ignore" me, that's their loss.......as (in reality) I've been quite helpful here!

So.....Kelson.....
What's new with 106R (and especially how it relates to the aforementioned "glitchy" video and audio issues plaguing these units)?

slprp1 would you please just sit on your hands for a couple of weeks and just wait to see what develops?

Your redundant posts have even those of us who have had much more serious troubles with the DVR+ sick of seeing them.

And no, we just can't ignore your posts. Two-thirds of the rest of the posts here are specific responses to yours.

Thanks.

Sorry.....I'm not quite ready to sit on my hands (while at the same time being asked to do further testing)! This represents nothing more than a complete contradiction!
I would also greatly appreciate it if you (and others here) would stop trying to stifle me.....as it's not serving any constructive purpose!......(especially when you consider that I spend most of the time having to respond to inappropriate criticisms (such as this one)!
......Speaking of inappropriate.....please.....I'm very curious......explain what you're referring to as "much more serious troubles" than trying to watch a recording (or even "live TV") and having to deal with skipped portions of video and/or audio and sudden freezes......and then being forced to to replay the same scenes over again!!......knowing full well that you have perfect reception and a perfectly good EHD!
Give me an example of what's "worse".
Thank you!

My Nikon camera is one such device, while it has composite and HDMI outputs only the HDMI output is full screen 16:9, the composite output is 4:3 letterboxed mad.gif
I've been told HD Fury makes a higher quality converter but no way I'm going to pay $300 for a converter to use on a $299 device rolleyes.gif

Thanks for all of your help!
The HD fury (which sounded interesting) converts HDMI to component video. That certainly complicates things (even if you had the budget for it, although the one I'm referring to is $160.00, which is not too unreasonable).
