Yep. The earlier CM DVR (DTVPalDVR) did this just fine.

Thanks! The STBX1000101 is one of the USB drives recommended (and sold by) Channel Master for the DVR+. If you haven't reported that even their recommended drive is throwing the False disk error, please do so, as that may get their attention.

Thank you! I was used to DVR > BACK to get to schedule and the three clicks of DVR > FFWD > FFWD gets me there almost as quickly. I would have never found that.

Extracting Subtitles from a DVR+ TS video

If you would like to extract the subtitles from a DVR+ TS recording, here’s one way to do it:

1. Download and install CCExtractor. It’s freeware.

2. Convert the TS recordings, otherwise CCExtractor doesn’t find any subtitles in the original TS file, at least not with what I've tried. Video conversion can be done using the converter option in DVR+ Lister, or however you’ve been converting them. Here’s the ffmpeg code I used for the test:
  • Input parameters: -i
  • Output parameters: -map 0 -c:v copy -c:a copy
  • Output file type: TS
If you’ve been converting using other parameters, give them a try as they may also produce a video conversion file that CCExtractor can use.

3. Run CCExtractor, and adjust the setting in all tabs as shown in the attached screenshots. Other settings might also work, that’s up to you to try. If the subtitles contain UDF-8 characters (such as musical symbols), be sure to set the “Encoding” to UTF-8 on the Output (2) Tab. Other settings may need adjusting, depending upon the show, and which subtitles to extract? After making the adjustments, go to the first tab, “About & Save”, and click the button “Save current options as default”.

4. Drag and drop the TS files to be processed (as many as you'd like) onto the box on the 2nd tab, “Input files”.

5. Go to the last tab, “Execution”, and click the “Start” button. As each TS file is processed, a preview of the subtitles being produced are shown in the preview window.

Anybody have a program listing for 7/12, NBC at 8pm EST? Just curious if Rovi has a guide update.

I’m Central Time, but my Rovi guide is filled through 7:30PM, Tuesday July 14.

The last Rovi update was 6/29/2015 at 11:39PM, before I requested a Rovi update, which took a little while, but now it goes through 8:30PM Tuesday July 14.

After the update, for Sunday 7/12, at 7:00PM Central, the NBC airing is Miss USA Pageant, so I guess that show has not been updated with current events.

Thanks. TMS on Zap2It and TitanTV are showing TBA. I guess it will filter down soon. I scheduled it to record to see what happens. It doesn't take much to keep me amused.

CM updated their list of "Recommended EHD"

A few minutes ago I noticed that CM updated their list of Recommended External Hard Drives for the DVR+ model CM7500GB16 (click the Technical Specifications tab), and it includes 4 WD drives. Still none over 3TB. Here's what it says:

Quote:
Recommended External Hard Drives
While many other external hard drives will work with the DVR+, Channel Master can not guarantee that all other external hard drives will be compatible.

500GB Slim EHD by Seagate (STCD500102)
500GB EHD by Seagate (STEA500400)
1TB EHD by Seagate (STBU1000100)
1TB EHD by Seagate (STBX1000101)
1TB EHD by Seagate (STEA1000400)
1TB EHD by Seagate (STDR1000100)
3TB EHD by Seagate (STCA3000101)
3TB EHD by Seagate (STBV3000100)
1TB EHD by WD (WDBZFP0010BBK)
1TB EHD by WD (WDBUZG0010BBK)
2TB EHD by WD (WDBU6Y0020BBK)
2TB EHD by WD (WDBMWV0020BTT)

As they say, many drives will work. I assume the oness they list are just the ones they've gotten around to testing thoroughly.

I wonder if anyone has retried the Seagate drive known not to work since 124R was released? There's at least an outside chance CM/E* fixed something. It's worth a shot at least.

BTW, I've experienced a couple of instances of the DVR+ locking up when watching Internet channels. My Internet connection has sucked since Sprint bought out Clearwire, so maybe it only happens with a bad Internet connection, but it shouldn't happen at all.

I had the same lockup on the internet stations - the cause was weak interned wireless - I use a 3' extension taped to the wall for better reception and it had fallen - when replaced all was ok

Ethernet. I haven't seen much difference between the DVR+'s wired connection and my PC's wireless connection with respect to speed. The speed of my service is by far the limiting factor.

It's theoretically 6 Mb/s, while measurements show it peaking around 4 Mb/s. Not great but it should be fast enough; problem is, it's not consistent and pauses repeatedly, resulting in an average around only 1 Mb/s.

It wasn't always like this, but once Sprint bought Clearwire, they no longer sell or activate new Clear devices and intend to phase out the service completely. So they have no incentive to maintain quality service for their remaining customers. Heck, they even dropped email service last April!

Guess I'll be buying AT&T DSL soon....

The point, though, is that the DVR+ shouldn't lock up no matter how bad your Internet is. At worst you'd lose the video, but you should still be able to change back to an OTA channel without having to warm-start the thing by holding the power button. It doesn't lock up when you tune to a too-weak OTA channel, after all.

The Internet channels do kind of strike me as "not quite done" - much like the DVR+ itself back at the beginning. Presumably they'll improve with time; CM will probably fix the few channels that aren't working at the moment, and may even get the guides populated without updating the firmware. A firmware update will probably be needed to fix these lock-ups, though (not to mention the HDD wake-up issue, and "really" fixing the LED bug for good).
