To those who got ship notices a couple of days ago: If you track the shipment on the UPS website, does it show that the package is in the hands of UPS?  Or still just "label printed"?

For those of you on the Newegg Shell Shocker email list - there is a cheap alternative for a wireless connection thru the ethernet port and powered by usb.

Upcoming Deal Starts At 03:00PM (PST)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833510006
$9.99
shipping cost unknown during sale period (right now it is free, and shoprunner is also available)

I take it that deal was some sort of temporary thing? That link shows $69.99 when I try it now.

One would think placing it somewhere ion the info box would be not just logical, but (should be) easy to accomplish.
And to think I complained about it taking 2 clicks on the Homeworx (you had to press Info twice, and it wasn't explained in the user guide) redface.gif

I just got my DVR+ today. The only thing that I am disappointed with so far is that the external hard drive stays on 24/7.

It's on the first page of four when using the remote "display" button on the Magnavox DVDR.

I don't know if I will buy into this new model. I really had hoped that this was going to be an improved PalDVR,, but now it looks like a kludged combination of crappy basic functions with an improved guide - not a compelling 'must have' combination for my money. What a shame CM didn't learn about what we liked about the PalDVR and go from there.
The irony is that it was E* who designed the DTVPal in the first place, so the lessons they never applied were their own!

Sounds like the DVR+ bears a similar relationship to the DTVPal as Windows 8 has to Windows 7 rolleyes.gif

I'm no Apple fanboy, but one thing Apple does right IMO is that they don't change their successful UI! Why do so many other companies fail to learn the simple lesson, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?

Hard drive question. Just received my Seagate STCD500102 from Amazon ($60) for the DVR+ that I do not have yet.
Can I use it on my computer to transfer files to another computer - will that do anything to it that will be a problem for the DTV+ when it arrives?
I am not familiar with using external hard drives. Sorry for such a basic question

Disregard my previous post the external hard drive does spin down, takes about 15 minutes and the power light stays on.

As long as your PC has drivers to let it read the Linux ext3 filesystem, you can do that. Older versions of Windows need third-party drivers to do it.

No, TiVo Romaio behaves the same as the old Premiers. Signal strength is buried good.

It's probably because the people who wrote the OS & UI for the CM-7500 may not be the same ones who wrote the DTV Pal's. The beta tester I was in contact with suspected as much given how much different the OS was from the Pal DVR and other things that popped up.

A quick question for those who have access to one of these. I've searched the manuals they have online, and the reviews linked in this thread, and I didn't see any reference to this.

On my current mythtv setup, which I'm considering replacing with something a more low-maintenance, I have the option to set priorities on recordings, so that if there is a conflict in the schedule, the ones with higher priority automatically win out in the conflict. Is there anything like this on the DVR+?

Having two tuners would normally help with most of the conflicts I see, but I use this feature to counteract problems with missing guide data (I use PSIP, which is generally quite reliable where I live, but has its occasional faults, especially on football Sundays). I schedule a lower priority time-based recordings to match all of my name-based recordings, and set them lower priority, so that if the show doesn't pop up in the guide for some silly reason, or pops up in the wrong timeslot, I still have a fallback that will record.

I haven't seen a priority command when setting up a recording. So I would say no.

I just spoke to someone at Channel Master about my order. They have the units in stock and are processing orders (with pre-orders) as a priority. A little patience and hopefully we all have our units by a week from Friday. :-)

Ok so who is really telling the truth? Here is a copy if an email I just received from CM. I have redacted it to protect the innocent.
"XXXX,

Good news in that I show your order shipped out today via UPS: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Please note we had no intentions to hold your Money, PayPal is an instantaneous payment system and our system collects it right away contrary to credit card. We just started shipping these to main stream public this Monday and had quite a backlog.

Thanks for your patience and please let us know if you have any other questions regarding order or product.

Regards,
XXXXX XXXXXX
XXXXX@channelmaster.com
1-877-746-7261 x XXX

If you either received your unit before this past Monday or even received your shipping notification before this past Monday then this email seems to indicate you are not main stream! HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Does anyone wonder why some of us sort of question the information from CM or this forum. It can't be that both are being honest. rolleyes.gif

Gotta love a universal remote where you can create macros. 10 button clicks can be reduced to 1.

I'm sure seeing a lot of whining going on here. What difference does it make if you get it one week before or after someone else? You'll all get them soon enough.

BTW, mine arrived today, but I won't have time to set it up and try it out until next week Monday. Should I start whining now too?

C'mon guys, start acting mature.

That is another really good question that has not been addressed -- conflict resolution. That is an advanced feature important for a two tuner DVR -- especially if people don't trust their guide data or clock setting and pad the beginning/end of their recordings with a minute or so. It is not just a matter of trying to record 3 programs at once. Suppose you have two programs recording on different channels in the same time block and you pad the recordings with 1 minute on each end. If you have another recording scheduled for the next time block immediately after, it will be in conflict because there will be no tuner available for it when it is supposed to start recording. What does it do? Does it start recording when a tuner gets free and clip the beginning of the next recording, or does it simply not record and skip the scheduled event.

Would some owners care to comment? Is there any way to change the order of the entries in the scheduled recording list?

Well they are currently a bit slow at processing orders. I placed an order 2 days ago and the tracker still says "Processing." But I was told the new shipment is in stock, but they are still catching up on the Preorders. Hopefully it will ship soon.

Channel Master has been doing wholesale business with regional distributors for virtually as long as I've been alive. They're new to e-commerce, and I'm sure it's still a small part of their overall operation. Give them a break - they don't quite have the resources of an Amazon.com.

I ordered mine 12/30 and it is also "Processing". I think "Processing" just means "we haven't shipped it yet."
