On phone with comcast and I can get get either box for my new setup. Quick google searches/reading threads and I can't find solid posts about picture and sound quality
of one versus the other. Is X1 the way to go for a high end display and sound system?

Thanks for the advice,
dave

Picture and sound quality should be the same. X1 is still in it's infancy with lots of updates to take care of the bugs, but it has a nicer interface. With the X1 platform you will be getting the latest equipment. If you stick to the regular HD-DVR ask for the latest equipment (in the Motorola area it would be the DCX3501). With X1 you have to have it installed. With a regular HD DVR you may be able to install it yourself.
