External Hard Drive with Dish - format?

I have an external hard drive connected to my Dish receiver. I have recently cut my service to just the minimum in order to wean myself ultimately from "the chord". After football season I will probably cut the cord completely.

But I have a ton of stuff stored on an external hard drive that is hooked up to my receiver that I would like to somehow recover if I can.

Does anybody know what format these files are stored in? What OS does dish use?

I could just play them and record to DVD if I had to but that would take hours. I may resort to that on the absolute most important stuff if neccessary.

btw, I did do a search on this before posting. I'm sure this information is in the forum but I apparently couldn't come up with the right search terms.

Go to DVD, it's the only way you will see what is on that disc. You have to do this before you cancel service. Once cancelled, all the data is toast. There is proprietary encrypting on the disc and it is in Linux format...

Not the answer I was hoping for.

Bobby, thanks for the response. That was not the answer I was looking for but I somewhat expected that. I will have prioritize the stuff that I have and decide which I can't live without.

Thanks again.

The use a proprietary file system with encrypted files.
Good luck offloading these recording from your external HDD.

Isn't that what Bobby told me the day before?
