Is it possible with the HiPix via a software upgrade to add some basic PVR functions like pausing live TV and "Trick Play" that are available with Tivo and UltimateTV? Is there something special about the AccessDTV card hardware that allows this or is it just software? I have gotten so used to my UltimateTV it is very difficult to give up the PVR convienience to watch HDTV.

Previoulsy I was not interested in an OTA only recording solution because there was not much worth recording, but with all of the new network shows in HDTV it now looks worthwhile. Especially since it only costs $300-$400. For the the stuff that's on OTA I'm not really intertesed in making permanent achives, mostly I just want to timeshift. I never seem to be able to watch the HDTV stuff I want to when it's on. So I end up watching it in SD with my UltimateTV. It seems like such a waste to have all this HDTV stuff and not be able to watch when you want to.

I'll confirm what Domat said. I ordered one from them about a month ago. The website said out of stock but I called and was told they are still getting small shipments in. I received on about 2 weeks later.

The HiPix card doesn't support all of those TiVo like "trick play" features because of some hardware differences. It doesn't support the live pause like the AccessDTV because of differences in the driver software between the two cards. The HiPix devel team is free to change the main application but we don't have access to make basic hardware driver changes right now.

You should consider a MyHD card, too. The latest software release makes it very stable and is currently supported by the manufacturer.

Are you using this card? I have one in my HTPC and it works very well! How's it working out for you?

The MyHD works well with the latest software release. I have noticed that the tuner is not as good as my DTV1080 stb. Marginal stength OTA digital stations that come in with the stb have problems with the MyHD card.

I was about ready to order this even before the TV itself arrived, but the following note stopped me:

IMPORTANT NOTE: The HiPix is a over-the-air (OTA) HDTV tuner/recorder and connects directly to an HDTV antenna. It will not work with satellite HDTV tuners. It also only records HDTV, not NTSC.

Is there an equivalent for a Satellite HDTV tuner? I'm not sure of antenna-based HDTV quality where I live (since I can barely get SD stations over the antenna and have been planning to get a new receiver for my DirectTV.)

I sent the below email (Re: Feedback re Beta release WDM driver 0.5.10.00.31 for Dio 2496 card) to M-audio earlier today. Anyone have any ideas or experience?

"I removed your old drivers using the uninstall program supplied with the new Beta drivers, installed the above-referenced….and after setting windows default device to M Audio DiO SPDIF, my Theater Tek 1.5 worked fine without lip-synch issues or any other issues noted. BUT, now, operating with the new Beta driver, after loading my Telemann Hi Pix software (in ATSC mode) there is no sound. I can correct this by calling up the M Audio control panel and affirmatively loading a saved scenario, but otherwise…no sound. Then if I unload the programs, stop and then re-start my computer and load the Hi Pix software--again no sound, per above. The prior drivers worked without any affirmative step needing to be taken to obtain sound when using Hi Pix. It's as though the new drivers do not retain the last setting. Yet, loading Theater Tek 1.5 and playing a DVD does NOT require going to the M-Audio control panel and loading any saved selections.

I bring this to your attention in case it is not yet a known problem (I can't find any mention in the various forums)…and also so that you can let me know of any current, or coming, fix.

You do a very good job, very impressive.

Thanks,"

I don't know if that is my problem too, but ever since I loaded TT 1.5, my local HD PBS channel has no sound, although all the nonHD channels have sound.

Thanks,

Jeff

Finally went digital: RS20, ISCO IIIs, DIY 10.5' wide torus screen, Stewart StudioTek 1.3 G3 with 4 way masking and adjustable image size
