DCX3600-M-

I am currently tweaking the DLNA functionality of the DCX3600-M.

If you already have this working with your service provider, kindly let us know.

DCX3600 Diagnostic Tips and Tricks

Here's a compendium of diagnostic tips and tricks for the DCX3600-

Quick Tips On Reboot and Diagnostics -
1. Press and hold the power key on the remote for 10 seconds to force a reboot
2. During the countdown (L-10 ,L-9 ,L-8,etc), power on and hit select for a detailed display of the components as they are being loaded
3. During the countdown or later, power on, press and hold select for 10 seconds, then hit Up for the OCAP diagnostics
4. After the load completes, press and hold select for 10 seconds, and hit Down for the ODN diagnostics
5. With the STB on, hit power, then select, for quick access to the Motorola STB diagnostics
6. With the STB on, hit A, B, C, Settings, power off, power on, Settings, Left, to access the Field Tools menu.
7. To enable device ports/functionality (eSATA, MoCA, USB), requires a little more button pressing and will not be covered in this post, for obvious reasons.
--
Multichannel Trick Play: (this section should be visible)
The DCX3600 can actively buffer 4 to 6 hours of TSB (up to 1 hour per tuner). The buffering kicks in after power on, and is reset at power off. Specifically, the last 60 minutes of the first 6 channels that you tune to will be buffered, and 4 of the 6 will continue to be buffered, even if you channel surfed to many other channels, after the initial 6.
Here's what you do:
1)Power Off -->Frees up the tuner assignments
2 )Power On --> Assigns tuner[0] to its default
3) Select any channel as a filler -->Assigns a channel to tuner[1]
4) Successively select the 4 channels that you want to buffer.-->Assigns tuners[2,3,4,5]
Note that tuners[0,1] will lose their buffering as you channel surf.
(You can watch the assignments in real-time from p.8 of the ODN diagnostics)

Comes in very handy for Sunday morning talk shows.

Would you be able to post these instructions. I am diving in to my new DVR and am amazed at all the functionality it has. (And all its secret features! :D)

I found some interesting stats after connecting it to the router and viewing the ip address using port 7070.
@nony
Would you know what any of these stats mean?

Advanced Streaming to Your PC

As some of us know, the CableLabs RI (Reference Implementation) allows us to stream actual program material from an HDHomeRun, and should be interoperable with the DCX3600.

Well humans, even computers have problems with very big devices!

Well, my well-endowed droids, even humans have problems with very big devices!

Well monsters (and their Creators) looking for spare parts, consider the above, and continue to not be extra careful with the brains, so we can have other posts of questionable value (besides mine)

Does anyone know if there is a way to get this box to output 5.1 Dolby Digital (or any other 5.1) audio? I have the box from TWC and it seems as though they put firmware on it that doesn't allow access to any audio settings whatsoever, even though the hardware is supposed to be capable of such things.

I am hoping to find a provider agnostic way to adjust the audio settings so that I can actually enjoy content in surround sound. I like a lot of the features this box provides, but I'm thinking about downgrading back to the Explorer 8300HD if I can't find a workaround.

Thanks.

Ok I reluctantly had to replace the Scientific Atlantic Explorer 8300 today for one of these.

I picked one up at a local TWC office. After a couple calls I was able to get the cable to function. But the DVR is fubared. :(

According to the TWC rep. I talked to on the phone, the local office goofed. The unit I picked up had to be a refurbished unit.
But they didn't properly reset the box. It shows no records, but the box shows 100% full. :(

He gave me the option to return that back to the local office for another. Or I could get a new one shipped FedEx. I chose the new one,
instead of gambling on another non-DVR working POS. :(

Is there any possible way I can reset this myself? Any guide from ARRIS explaining how to do it?

A 6-turner DVR would be great if it actual records.

Update on this situation.

Apparently the TWC rep I talked with on Sat didn't put the order through correctly when I checked the status on Mon.
So the TWC rep I talked with on Mon put it through. :( That meant I was going to get the new box 1-2 days later than first told. :(
I was told to call back Tue for the FedEx tracking #. So I call Tue to get the tracking #, and the TWC gives it to me. The rep also
tells me it's scheduled to be delivered on the same day.:) The rep checked the FedEx website, so did I. :)

So I hangup and call FedEx to find out a delivery time window. IE: between 7-11, 12-4
The FedEx rep gives me a window between 10-6 :(

I waited all day for that damn truck. The delivery guy decided to show up at 5:40PM :mad:

The new DVR came with the cables I needed, and it worked. :)
I'll be returning the other non-working DVR box tomorrow.

hello, i am new here. i got my own dcx3600m and TWC was able to pair their cable card to the box. however, some of the channel did not show up and the guide did not show up and DVR does not work. they told me the cable card was paired correctly. is their a way to hard reset the DVR and force it to take the firmware and hardware again?
thanks

If you or your IT guy have a need to delve further, you can always enable the appropriate legacy diagnostic logging over the serial port (accessed over the IR port with a TRS to serial/usb connector)

I am having a strange problem with ARC between my Preamp and TV that seems to be caused by the DCX3600-M that was just installed. ARC was working between the TV (LG OLED 65B6P) and preamp (Marantz AV7702MKII) with my previous cable box (Cisco 8742 HDC). Following installation last Friday of the DCX3600-M by TWC the ARC has not worked. At first I thought it might be a bad HDMI cable so I replaced all of the cables in my set up with certified hi bandwidth cables. I then tried resetting both the preamp and TV and also tried all possible combinations of settings on both. No luck. Then after a few days I decided to "disconnect' the DCX3600-M by removing the HDMI cable. After a few seconds the ARC started working and even continued to work after plugging the HDMI back into the cable box. If the entire system is powered down and then restarted the problem recurs and is always correctable by unplugging the HDMI cable to the DCX3600. Note that once it's working, I can turn just the cable box off and on and it still works. Strange - since I never would have expected that the cable box could affect ARC between the TV and preamp.

Has anyone else experienced this with the DCX3600-M?

maser- re issues with ARC using 3600- i also had issue with ARC audio not working when streaming from Smart TV last yr when i traded 8742 in for 3600- prior to 3600 ARC CEC worked fine using 1 hdmi cable from Yamaha AVR 675 to TV with everything plugged into AVR- after installing 3600 i could get no audio when streaming from TV (the sound would stay on the DVR tuned cable channel- not go to the streaming netflix/amazon channel- went online & learned that this seems to be an issue with the Arris 3600 screwing up the ARC- i had to use a digital audio cable from TV to AVR to get audio when streaming from TV. Worked fine.
I now have a Cisco 9865 enhanced 6 tuner DVR from TWC (had issues after 8-9 months with the 3600 recording) & CEC works fine with it.

Thanks bgrpph. Short term I guess I'll go with optical from the TV to the Preamp and then eventually replace the DCX3600-M with the Cisco.
