.MPG ==> DVD: Aspect Ratio Problem

I had a movie in .MP4 format that needed subtitles whenever German was spoken.

Found a .SRT file for just the German, fired up the movie in VLC Media Player and everything looked good.

Then I used ReplayVideoCapture to scrape it off of VLC's playback window.

Wound up with a .MPG file that was 1008x424 or ...x448 depending on "Display" or "Resolution". Still looking A-OK when played back with VLC Media Player.

Then I used VideoRedoSuite to transcode the .MPG to a DVD/.ISO file.

Problem is that I can't seem to make VideoRedoSuite handle the aspect ratio properly: everybody's face is too narrow.

Am I trying to fool Mother Nature with that goofy resolution? i.e. do I need to trial-and-error the VLC window until I wind up with a set of resolution numbers that are more "Standard" - like 720x480.... or might there be some way to work with what I have?

Why are you converting a screen capture to DVD? Just convert the original MP4. If you want a DVD-Video disc, you must use one of the allowed resolutions, such as 720x480, and then set the aspect ratio flag to scale the image properly.

In order to play it on a DVD player that does not cope with other formats.

"Allowed resolutions" says it all and answers my question.

Thanks!
