Any way to save my Verizon Fios DVR recordings?

I have Verizon Fios and I really want to upgrade my DVR, but I really don't want to forever lose some of my recordings. Apparently they have no way of transferring old recordings to a new DVR, which is ridiculous.

I know many people have saved their DVR recordings to an external hard drive or a DVD. Has anyone done this? I want to preserve the quality as best I can, is there any way to save them possibly using a Blu-ray recorder? I think I've pretty much found how to do it on DVD here:

Sound about right?

We have a number of existing threads that may help you. I turned up these with a simple search:

Dvr -> pc
Transfer DVR recordings to a Mac or External Hard Drive
Can I transfer the recorded movies from Time Warner HDVR box to a PC?
Is it possible to rip recorded video off Directv HD DVR?
Transfer HD recordings from Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD to my PC?

You'll see a real-time playback through a capture box is about your only option.

Granted, they're not specific to Fios boxes. I'm sure if there's a difference, someone will chime in.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.
