Jason....I've got a 30k along with the Sammy 165, and, am very pleased with both, I guess mainly due to having ALL the OTA HD networks here in the Houston area to record. I'd like to have the moded 169time also, but, the DST3000 is not near as hot as the Sammy for OTA, and doing both is a little rich for me presently, maybe later.

I'm sure you'll like the set-up, it works great here. The next thing is the media (DF-300's), once hooked you will got through a lot of it, buy that only on line ;-) Plus all the prerecorded HDNet stuff and D-Theater tape there are to watch too.

I'm glad I got the equipment, no matter of opinion here, and BTW; I did have to send my 30k back as it DOA'ed after a few hours use, but JVC did right by me, and fixed the issue.

Take care and good luck with your project.

Mikey, are your local stations passing through proper PSIP clock info?

Why does it have that funky plastic cover in the first place? Guess no automatic tape eject, huh?

Do you need an STB to record over the air HDTV? Couldn't you just plug your antenna input into the back and record away?

I believe dust protection might be the reason. Any foreign particles could help dirty the heads .
By the way I have succesfully recorded HD direct tv with it via 169time but the deck interfaces differently with the avx1 than the 30000 did. It doesnt recognize the dtc100 with an I channel number. it only gives an I-1 channel to the avx1. Proper boot procedure is Turn on dtc100 and 40000. Turn on Avx1 and let it bootup till Jvc deck shows I-1. Unplug jvc deck 5 seconds and let it boot up. Thats it.

Matt.... As I record manually, can't say, there were issues with the PSIP data, but seems they all got it fixed here, however I will check and advise. Funny way to run a railroad, but to each their own, I guess?

Take care......

The only digital station I can pick up WTNH ABC, has a clock that is always off by 40 to 80 minutes. I grabbed the clock info and set the Samsung to it the other day, then pulled the antenna cord off. This way the clock won't change. It's off by 50 minutes, so I have to keep that in mind when scheduling recordings.

I previously picked up an open box 30000 from Circuit City and checked it out. I returned it before 30 days since I thought that I would always second guess myself with all of the problems reported over the last year or so. So far, I love the 40000 unit. I taped a little of the Colts/Broncos on Monday night football via my Samsung 165 HDTV receiver. It looked as good as the live picture which was superb. Dtheater tapes (U-571 and Backdraft) look and sound fantastic. I don't know if I will use it enough to justify the cost, but I sure like to know that I have the capability to record HDTV if I want to. Thanks for some of the positive comments here that helped me make the move!

Steve

I think the 40k has a better track record so far than the 30k, despite phaseshift's troubles. I still use mine extensively and have not encountered any problems yet.

Too few 40K's have been purchased to make any kind of statements on this, in my humble opinion.
