He is not just a "regular" user. He works for the TiVo upgrade company called "weaknees". He also said that they are working on a design for the 2nd hard disk bracket.

Thanks guys! Looks like broad availability soon.
Haven't seen any reviews by owners of this piece yet.
What is the guide like? Is it like the Hughes HTL-HD (with customizable guide and 'Favorites')?

The guide is identical to SD DirecTiVos. You can customize the "channels you receive" as well as one "favorites" list. You can set the on-screen guide to display All Channels, Channels You Receiver, or Favorites.

With a TiVo, though, who uses a guide?

I'm currently a Dish customer and have had a 921 on pre-order for several months. After reading the reports of instability and lack of features on the 921, I looked into DirecTV and of course the HR10-25.

It sounds like the HR10-25 will have more features and potentially be more stable. But I've read some posts that imply that DirecTV recompresses their HD channels. I really don't like the sound of that! Is that true?

That's the only issue that's holding me back from cancelling my 921 order and switching to DirecTV.

I'm pretty sure it's true that D* compresses the HD channels. In my experience, it's really not that big a deal right now. If they continue compressing them, it of course has the possibility to get real ugly.

For me, there's no comparison to the TiVo software.

Lots of "initial experience" reviews in the Tivo Community Forum (http://www.tivocommunity.com) in the HiDef Tivo PVR Forum.
