I've been playing with the FW capture on my 6200 via my HTPC using CapDVHS and DCTRecord. By following the directions at the head of this thread, I was able to get things to work right off. Great information! However, I have noticed a few things, and thought I would comment about them and see if anyone else is seeing the same things.
I get video drops outs (sporadic blockiness) when recording on the iNHD1/2 and HDNet/HDNetMovies channels. (I've got Adelphia Cable.)
After doing a lot of tests on the various analogue and digital channel formats, it appears to be limited to channels that have a bit rate of 45Mbps as reported by CapDVHS. I'm thinking that maybe it's a bandwidth problem on the FW bus, or may possibly be my FW "card". I'm currently using the on-board FW on my Asus MB, as it is the only one with a small FW port that fits my cable. It's always worked fine before, but I've never done HD recording before either. I may get another cable and try using my other PCI based FW card and see if things change. I've played with the PCI latency settings to see if they had any effect, but didn't appear too.
I also have found that a few SD digital channels don't report any information in CapDVHS about the stream format or data rate. They seem to record ok, but I haven't found anything that will play them back. MyHD 120 says it's an invalid file format, and none of my DVD software players will play them either. One such channel I can remember was Fox Sports Network. It's possible this may be related to the show and not the channel. I haven't tested this thoroughly.
I get the same results no matter what software app I'm using to record, CapDVHS, DCTRecord, or VLC.
Also, has anyone got the Zap2It utility for DCTRecord to work with guide info? I went to their site and tried to register, but the registration page seems to be broke. I assume you have to register before you can get access to any config settings to tell it to use the the helper app, like you do with TitanTV.
