Comcast in the Dallas, TX area launches the 6412 today. Congratulations, Dallas!

And congratulations to Scotty on being the very first paying customer of Comcast anywhere in the U.S. to receive a 6412!!!

Do you have any idea where Denver fits in? I have been told by local CSR's before Jan 1.

Is there any special trick that can get me on a beta program?

thanks!

Slight correction to the Dallas, TX statement. Only the single cable systems in the DFW area can get the 6412. All of the dual cable systems (a/b) which include Plano, Richardson, and the City of Dallas have to wait until Comcast and Motorola figure out how to add the A/B box on the back of the 6412.

Thanks SonomaSearcher (Go Bears), I had an inside tip that they were available (thanks Kcharg!). For anyone currently using the 6208 the 6412 is def. a faster and meaner box... I love it!

BTW, for those who live in the Frisco, Colony, Lewisville area all you have to do is take your old 6208 with remote down to the Lewisville payment center and trade it in. Doesn't cost you a penny.... While supplies last, of course.

I called to see if it was out in Detroit yet (or when it would be) and the CSR said it isn't out anywhere in the country yet.

So obviously you guys are all lying.

She said they don't have a release date yet. But it will be "soon."

I called Comcast customer service for the DFW area. Their center is in Irving. First time I called the woman said the rollout was delayed till next week. Called back and talked to a different woman. Asked about the Lewisville and PLano offices. She checked and said Plano was getting theirs this afternoon.
Call back again. Different person again. Asked the hours of operation for saturday for Lewisville. 9 - 1pm. Plano is open till 5. So after I watch my 3 L&O shows from this week I will take back tomorrow.
I also asked about how many they had. She didn't give specifics but said it shouldn't be a problem swapping out. My coworker called them about Arlington and they guy said it is in beta.
So hopefully I can swap both DVRs tomorrow.

I just spoke to a fairly knowledgable CSR and they confirmed the above. They have them in stock, but they are incompatible with the A/B systems. Which just plain blows for me, as I finally had a 2 tuner box in sight and it won't work with my system :-(

I'm no expert....so your mileage may vary

Congrats Scotty, I'm jealous. I'm stuck in crappy A/B land, so I guess I'm still stuck with my 08 box for a while.

Comcast CSR in Philadelphia, PA said the 6412's are not scheduled here until January....take that for what it is worth.

Seattle - WA

spoke to csr 10/21

she had dvr training yesterday

"official" release date of 6412 is 11/15

limited initial product availability

question:
is there going to be a way to transfer content from the STB/DVR to an HTPC for processing/archiving?

If CSR's already received their training, you may be able to get your hands on one before 11/15 ... they may start "unofficially" releasing them (such as by taking your existing box in to the local office for a swap) soon. I would keep calling back every day until someone tells you they can schedule an install or that you can go into the office for a swap.

A/B Cable systems are 2 wires (A and B) that plug into the back of the cable box. Each carries half the channels. The cable box 'switches' between the two when tuning channels.

The dual tuner HDPVR 6214 was apparently designed for single wire cable systems only...hence the difficulty.

I swapped out two of my 6208 for two 6412s. I went to Lewisville and the guy said they are having their training on Wednesday. Their office is actually going to be closed for training. There was a sign on the door. He said someone mispoke so they are releasing them early. He said they only had 4 left at that location. The others are in the warehouse.. So I could only get one. So I then drove over to Plano and got another. Same sign on door about being closed for training. But I got my two 6412s and am in DVR heaven:D

I have comcast high speed internet. I've seen posts where some have signed up for the digital box rental and hdtv programing without any of the other expensive digital channel packages. Anyone know the cheapest total cost to lease an hdtv pvr

yesdear,

You can get the HDTV set-top box from Comcast for $5/mo with limited basic cable ($11-$16/mo). However, if you want the DVR for $10/mo, you must first subscribe to "digital basic," which will run $45-$65/mo, depending on the service area. Enter your zip code on the Comcast site to see the price of digital basic in your area.

Comcast figures capital expenditures like DVRs into its digital cable pricing.

Here, and in some other areas, to get a DVR ($9.95), one needs Ltd. Basic ($9.40) and Digital Classic ($9.95).

Digital Classic doesn't include Expd. Basic, therefore Expd. Basic isn't needed.

Some have mentioned that Expd. Basic is included in Digital Classic in their area, but my response was that it shows that way on my local Comcast site, as well, but the local price pamphlet shows otherwise. My guess is it is the same everywhere, one just has to check the pamphlet. I don't think they are even allowed to include an analog tier as part of a digital tier.

I have a had my GWII for 1.75 yrs., I still have Analog cable. I was researching D* for my condo, but finally decided on Comcast HD.

When the 6412 is available here, would it be possible for me, as opposed to an existing HD Digital customer, to get one?

Will a CSR allot one to me or do I have to speak to someone else?

Should I say I am thinking of going to D*, if I can't get a Dual-tuner HD DVR?

Here in the Dallas area a few months back I went to their website to check if HD was available in my zip code. The response back from web site was not yet and would you like to be notified when. I said yes.
After that I called Comcast and they said it was available. So if your response is by the website I would call just to make sure.

Any info on the 6412's for Prince Georges County, MD would be appreciated as well.

I currently have the 6208.

There are some days I want to record things on mutliple channels simultaneously but the wife has been tying up the vcr. :(

Just talked to Comcast and they have it scheduled for release on November 1st(may not be on the 1st exactly, but should be sometimes during first week of November). This is from talking to 3 different CSRs and they all had same info so I am hoping it is correct information.

I just called Comcast, and the CSR I spoke to had no information regarding the roll-out. She called the repair people, and was unable to get any more information.

I guess I'll call back, next week, to see if more info has filtered out.
