Just browsing, I ran across this device at:
http://www.campsiehifi.com.au/JVC/vcr/hm-dr10000.htm

According to the specs., it records at 19.14 Mbps in D-VHS MPEG-2 Standard.

Price is about AUS$3700, or about US$1900.

Maybe this is a back door to HDTV recording.

It shows what JVC can do if they wanted to.

Like a component video in/out, MPEG2 digital storage VCR.

The JVC 10000 is not an HD capable model. It does not support HS speed necessary to record ATSC.
