Before we break out the champagne to celebrate the availability of a DVHS recorder, there is the other half of the equation, the HD source. Does this beauty come with an HD tuner for $2,000, otherwise the only choice is a PC with Access DTV card/gigantic hard drive.

It should have a IEEE1394 port, so the Panasonic TU-DST50/51 would probably work.

JVC's plan was to also introduce a big library of prerecorded DVHS HDTV tapes.

Now there's an idea with some teeth in it. If the plan calls for OAR and 5.1 DD tracks at a reasonable price, count me in. Just to be on the safe side I don't think I'll hold my breath for the hardware and SW to arrive.

Someone really should let JVC know that there are likely scores of us here willing to pony up.
