For those who have a JVC DH30000:

Does it record HBO-HD/Showtime from a modulated Dish 5000?

Yes. Works just like the HD1000. Only thing different is that the TU-DST50/51 timer won't turn the JVC on; it will only start and stop the recording process. Therefore, in order to do timer recording you either leave the JVC on or set it's timer to coincide with the STB timer (and set the STB to "view" instead of "record").

I don't think you understood his question. I think he was asking if you can use the Dish 5000 modulator to connect to the JVC digital tuner (but I could be wrong). If I am right, then I think (once again could be wrong) the answer is no because they use a different frequency, or something like that, in japan for there HDTV, then we do here.

Thanks Chap, I read that wrong.

The output of the modulator is ATSC - 8VSB on chan 3 or 4. The JVC DH30000 does not appear to have an 8VSB detector.
