I have noticed that the Hughes dvhs recorder allows 4 hours recording time on a t120 and the Pvhd1000 allows 2.5 hours. Why couldn't someone speed up a hughes recorder and convert its digital output to a firewire connection ? If this sounds simple its because it reflects my limited knowledge of electronic engineering. Will those with this knowledge please enlighten me.

I would guess this is possible (maybe?), but under no circumstances could you call it easy. A great many things to change that require engineering time & knowledge.
