Hi, I've be following quite a few threads in this forum concerning mating the Panasonic TU-DST50 or 51 with either PV-HD1000 D-VHS or JVC 30000 D-VHS recorders. I was wondering if anyone had any luck in connecting these STBs with a computer via Firewire.
Granted the files that a one-hour HDTV show would create would be huge. But if they were saved as 480p or 480i (I know this sacriledge to some) these shows could be saved to CD-Rs or to the new larger capacity Pioneers DVD-Rs. As far as I know these DVD-Rs are not playable in current standalone DVD players. However these drives are available in laptops that can easily be hooked up to your living room TVs.
The prices the PV-HD1000 D-VHS recorders are fetching are out of reach as far as I'm concerned ($1200+ on ebay!) so I'm starting to look at other alternatives.
What do you think--are they possibilities in going this route?
