I apologize in advance for asking a question that I'm sure has been answered many times here. I'd appreciate a quick summary of what options are currently available for HDTV recording. At the January 2001 CES JVC told me that they expected to release a D-VHS recorder in May. Did they do so, and are there other D-VHS units available? I believe that Panasonic released an HDTV recorder a year or two ago. Is that still available, and can it be used to record and play back through any display, not just Panasonic sets? Anything new on recording HDTV to hard disk a la TiVo, or onto DVD? Any prerecorded tapes available, or promised? Thanks for your patience.

This tread is a fairly recent summary of the recording situation.

To update a little, the JVC HM-DH30000 is currently available from Japan, but it has significant problems. I think the US version is called HM-DV30000. There is still no certainty about its capability or release date.

The Panny combo (TU-DST50(51)/HD1000 is still the most dependable solution, but it is becoming increasingly scarce. The TU-DST50 and 51 have component outputs.

The 169time solution is looking more and more dismal.

Analog -- Always out of adjustment.
Digital -- Always one more bug.
