I have wanted to dabble in HDTV and have been looking at a couple of different HDTV tuner cards. I am wondering if this scenario is feasible:

1. Equip a dedicated PC with an HDTV tuner card
2. Connect HDTV card to HDTV
3. Using the software provided by the card manufacturer to provide Tivo like capability

Has anyone done this?
Is it at all feasible?
Is the PC Card output sufficiently stable for either PC Viewing or TV Set viewing?
Can you get good playback from HDTV recordings made via the card?

Any input would be welcome.

eHopper,

Yes, a lot of peole are doing this today. Just search for AccessDTV. HiPix also does this, but is less TIVO like (no program guide, no pause of live TV).

ehopper,

Many people are doing this (myself included). You may find more info over in the Home Theater Computer forum. The two main cards out now are the Hi-Pix and AccessDTV. The difference basically is the AccessDTV does PVR stuff, but it encrypts its recorded files so you can't share them.
