Those forum members who own Panasonic's PV-HD1000 DVHS VCR know how loosely the supplied Firewire cables fit into the receptacles. It's real easy for them to fall out or slip out of contact.

I called Bi-Tronics (1-800-666-0996) in Hawthorne, NY and ordered two of their 10' Firewire cables (part # YD-FW4410). They sell for $19.30 each, and absolutely, positively snap securely into the Panasonic set-top box and DVCR.

No more cables slipping out. These cables do not come with chokes, BTW. (Not that you'll really need the chokes.) Bi-Tronics also has a web site at, and you can order cables in 6', 10', and 15' lengths.

Had the same problem. Come home and find out that the recorder never started because the connection got loose.

Believe it or not, I bought a Firewire cable from Best Buy and fixed that problem permanently. Nice snug fit and a lot cheaper.
