In case you didn't already know, for those that added the 10-250 to existing service, there's a $4.99/mo additional receiver fee. So, w/ the $10.99/mo HD pack fee, that's another $191.76/yr. And, if you didn't already have Tivo service, at $5.99/mo, that'll make it an additional $263.64/yr. Just an FYI, since they didn't mention the 'additional receiver fee' when I signed-up. HDTV's nice, but expensive aint it?

I've actually been running the Ultimate TV service since I signed up with DirecTV a few years ago, and it costs $9.99/month. I'll actually be going down to $5.99 for Tivo. :)

I just signed up for the 10-250 deal, I already have a sd tivo which I bought from D**. Do I have to pay for two tivo fees at $5.99 ea or just one? I guess I should have asked when I spoke to the CSR.

If you have TCP (the package with all the channels) you will not have to pay the Tivo fee, it is waived because you have the higher priced package.

No, you only pay one Tivo fee per household (unless the above applies), and can have as many Tivos as you want.

I'm being charged my old Tivo fee of $4.99. It's only a dollar less/mo, but it all adds up.

Found the number:

Ordered mine...took 4 minutes, first try.

Called up, told him my samsung is no longer getting a picture only audio and I wanted to get an HDTivo for the $299 with $100 rebate. He said I sounded like I knew what I was talking about and what I wanted and said let me just write up your order with all the other discounts included...

...It was that easy:

HDTivo $349.00
$50.00 Credit
$100.00 Rebate
$14.95 Credit for all Shipping Charges
---------------
He suspended my account until everything is up and running so I am not being charged right now while I have no picture.
+$5.00 off of HD Programming for 6 months
+Showtime for free for 6 months and no commitment after that

Now if I can figure out what is wrong with my Samsung HD Receiver I will be able to have HD in my bedroom...finally! any ideas to what may be wrong or what to do?

I just got my HD10-250 installed utilizing the current customer retention deal. I was somewhat concerned about the upcoming MPEG-4 conversion. I sent an e-mail to direcTV stating this concern and here is the reply:
Thanks for asking about HD equipment. I understand your concern about how our Advanced Video Compression HD technology (MPEG-4 AVC) will affect any MPEG-2 equipment you may have. Let me reassure you that most customers will be able to use their MPEG-2 equipment for quite some time.

At this time our current HD programming will continue to be broadcast using the MPEG-2 standard, MPEG-4 technology will be used only to provide local HD programming in select cities. (Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Tampa and Washington, D.C. are expected to launch this year, with more to be added throughout the next year.)

Once local HD programming launches in your city, you will be eligible for an MPEG-4-compatible receiver replacement at no cost to you. If you want to replace your HD DVR, you may need to wait a bit longer. Our new MPEG-4-compatible DIRECTV HD DVR receiver is expected to be available in early 2006.

Sincerely,
DIRECTV Customer Service

Cool. My wife has been wanting (bugging me) to switch the home theater from the Sammy HD STb to HD Tivo (already have low def D* Tivo in bedroom). Called and got the $299 - $100 deal. Installtion this Friday.

I see (from above) that with this setup they'll end up upgrading me to the MPEG4 stuff free when it happens. That would make the deal pretty sweet for me.

I called yesterday and was offered $299 + $100 rebate, and $20 off a month for 6 months, but they wouldn't throw in the atnenna. (I'm total choice premier and ST sub).

That seems better than most are getting the past week or so. My contract is actually up, so I'm wondering if I should hold out for more and threaten to switch, or if that's all I'll be able to get.

I have a Sony HD300 right now that is dying (OTA tuner only gets 2 channels and fails test). I'd like them to throw in a non PVR HD receiver to replace the HD300 too, but think I may be pushing my luck.

I've got the pricing for Dish, and am going to call and get pricing from Cox tonight, will probably call them back tomorrow.

I called to see what the deal was and they said I had to agree to one year to their HD package but I told them there's nothing that I really want and would prefer HBO for the same money. Can you cancel this sooner without a penalty? All I really want is to record local channels in HD and an occasional PPV in HD, don't care about ESPN or Discovery channels I never watched in SD.

Also, when they say ABC is on channel 87, is that off the satelite or off the air? ABC OTA is very spotty in my area and I'm depending on their feed to make it happen.

I got the HD-DVR and an SD-DVR for the bedroom TV for $299 - $100 MIR.

He wouldn't budge on anything else and that could have something to do with the fact that I got $200 in programming credit and 6 months of Showtime earlier this year. :)

Does anyone have the H10 receiver? I have the Sony Sat H-200. I like it. But Directv is sending me the new H10 free of charge. They say it has interactive capability. I don't want to lose the quality and ease of use of the Sony though. Has anyone made the switch from the Sony to the H10?

Thanks.

Thanks to reading all of your successes, we tried ourselves. We already have one HD-DVR but wanted a second one. We paid around $800 for the first box back last Xmas. Anyway, here's what we got:

$299.00 minus $100.00 MIR
$20.00 service credit x 6 months
50% discount on SuperFan

My husband was really disappointed that they are making you pay $$$ to watch the Sunday Ticket games in HD. Shouldn't have to pay for what they included last year, but it's hard to go back once you've watched a game in HD... At least the $50 helps...

Well ........ I just got off the phone with them and was told that this "promotion ended last night". When I asked why they said because it was being abused. The best they would offer me was $499 less $100 MIR and a $10 credit for 12 months.

Anyone else get that response today?

I had called last week to see what kind of deal I could get on the first call. After seeing the above messages, I just called and made sure they knew that I had called already and wanted to take the deal previously offered. The CSR said it was now $499 before $100 MIR. But since I had called before, she gave me a $200 credit to bring it back down to the same deal I was offered before. I also asked about the free interactive receiver that the Sunday Ticket subs are being offered. I told her instead of that I would rather have free programming. She gave me all the movie channels plus the sports pack for free for 2 months.

So I pulled the trigger on the HD Tivo.
$499
- $200 credit
- $100 mail in rebate
2 months free of all movie channels and sports pack.

I called twice today and both times they denied me the $299 -$100 rebate deal!
I even spoke to a supervisor and she would not budge. They told me the $299 deal was for "special circumstances" and that it ended yesterday. I argued and said that I just found out about it and it was only a day and that I am a loyal customer. I have been a sub for 5 years and in good standing. I even used Dish Network deal that was offered me ($200 for HD PVR) but she shot it down and would only give me $499 -$100 rebate.
I guess I can't blame them. This has been going on for the past two months it seems and there are people selling info on how to get this deal on eBay!.
I am going to try again tomorrow and see what happens.
I also wonder if they aren't extending this offer to those subs in the first 12 markets that are supposed to be upgraded to MPEG4 equipment.
(New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco, Dallas, Washington DC, Atlanta, Detroit, Houston, and Tampa Bay)
I'm in the NY area.
Anyone else in the big 12 that got the deal?

i was offered the same deal as myrtle but i tabled it and will try again later....$499 upfront is still too high, if they cave for $299 with the same credits and rebates i am in! oh they offered a year of all channels instead of 2 months but i already get hbo and sho for 2 buck a month, i dont like starz or tmc so i passed on it.

I called today, got the $499 -100 rebate deal... but I had to sign a 24 month commitment... i almost went for it, but 24 months is crazy. I am in the miami area.

I just jumped on ebay to see the prices of the HD-DVR... yes there are a few people trying to sell the secret to getting an HD-DVR for $299. no wonder they canceled the offer...

If I just buy one from ebay can I still get the $100 off from direct TV? The HD-DVR is listed for about $400 on ebay, so with $100 thats not bad.

Do you have to pay a tivo service charge to DTV to use this?

2 year commit is ok i have been with D* since 97, and the csr said with having a hd tivo now and when mpeg4 rolls out it would be switched out for free. thats worth it as opposed to having to buy another $1000 box for mpeg4.

I called on Saturday clueless any of this had been going on. I had researched the options and honestly was prepared to switch although I like D* programming better.

They offered $299 with a $100 rebate, free OTA antenna and $10 a month discount for a year off HD programming for a HD-DVR.

I can't believe I squeaked in on this especially since I hadn't done any research about deals and was just fishing with CSR. They install on Thursday!

Wow! Now I'm really glad I pulled the trigger on this last week. I bought my HDTV on Friday, hooked it all up, and promptly called D*. Not getting it installed for a few weeks due to schedule conflicts, but so glad I got in under the wire. Can't wait to get the new unit and the HD channels.

Man, I'm lucky that I got in on this as well. Hopefully my install on Saturday goes off without a hitch. I do need one more coax run done for the OTA signal, but everything else should be ok.
