I have a comcast 3416 I s/w version 74.53 - 3321 firmware 16.35

if you go to www.comcast.com/newguide it shows some of the new features. I don't have any of these features. Is my box out of date and does comcast do auto firmware upgrades or can I force an upgrade at all??

Comcast will push the firmware upgrade to you eventually. Only some areas like the Chicago area has seen the new firmware. It hasn't made it's way out to other areas yet.

oh ok Cool, do you know when they did the update? So is everyone else still use my version? Does the box do an an upgrade at night on it's own, or can you do it manually?? I guess I have never really paid any attention to it.

They started in November I believe. Most subs use the current firmware that you have. The box will get the upgrade at night and it will reboot on its own--you can't force an upgrade.

You're seeing new iGuide software on their website. A25 or A26 I think. I've heard it's coming sometime this year and will address many of the bugs found in the current software.

After watching the 2 minute video they have, I couldn't help but notice their guide didn't have the damn ads on the bottom of the screen. I wish the new guide/firmware got rid of them.

Would be nice, but a cable company give up ANY revenue stream?
Nearly impossible.

When you pay $10-20 for a DVR rental, it's kind of like paying someone to screw you.

But that's cable.

I love those Comcast commercials talking about the "big, evil phone companies" overcharging their customers. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

The devil pointing out a child's bad behavior. Sickening, no shame.

Moderator harassment is wrong and immoral.

Except that it isn't "bad" behavior; it is precisely what they should be doing, serving the best interests of their owners.

Sucks, eh?

Hi everyone,

My first post! Anyhow, I also have a fairly old firmware on my DCT3416. I have ver 16.20. Ugh.. I'm desperately waiting for at least 16.35, which seems to contain a big pack of fixes.

Some of the things that annoy me about the box/firmware:
1. Lip sync issues. Even watching live tv has some of those problems. Seems more prevalent on SD channels. I have the box hooked up to my tv (Panny Th-50PZ750U) via HDMI.

2. Occasional beeping when changing channels. The heck?!

Oh, I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area (specifically, San Mateo County/Burlingame).. I wonder when we'll get the upgrades...

Well the "newguide" comcast page mentions "next several weeks". This website has been around since the beginning of the year itself.

Next "several weeks" could mean "several months" by cable standards.

The user manual has "0108" on the last page.

It's not surprising Comcast is way behind their own announced expectations, but that NO ONE has received it at all! I would've thought SOMEONE would've slipped some info by now.

There are really no features I care about in this version. But I am hoping for better reliability.

yea I can't remember when I first saw it to tell u the truth. I would really like to have the gap protection, that actually does mes up some of my recording. Does anyone have the new features yet? Also does anyone know if the update includes both DCT and DHC boxes? I also wish they would enable external hard drive use. What's the point of putting all these ports on the back of the box if they are never going to use them, stupid

The updates should be for all the DCT and DCH boxes. From the software point of view they are all the same.

The extra ports and such on the back are for "future" expansion and usage. But at this point I doubt if anything will come of it. The next DVR's are already planned out.

The current machines are not up to the task they do now, do not have MPEG-4 compression capability(if I'm not mistaken), technology, and are generally unreliable and involve high maintenance.

It appears Panasonic will probably be the next manufacturer of the next DVR.
Comcast and Panny are in bed together on the current project.

Although, Moto does have the DCX boxes. I suppose they are still in the cards.

Knowing how slow Comcast is in South FL, it will take months before they push any new firmware down here.
My DCH3416 is at s/w 74.53-3321, f/w 18.34.

Is the button queue problem fixed? That was supposed to be resolved in feb.

At least you have the proper guide framework to implement SDV in the future.

I haven't noticed lag since the update but haven't watched much on the DVR. All my shows are watched and nothing new right now.

When it's available and ready for your area, they'll push it. Not one second before.

Any updates from those of you with the new SW?

Lag? Reliability? etc?

I haven't noticed any problems. The only thing the box seems to be turning itself off in the evening after I go to bed. It's off when I wake up. Record light is working.

My DVR just got updated...I can no longer record the HD and SD streams from the DVR to my PC thanks to it. Not happy with it at all. Not sure if they did it on purpose or if it just happened and I need to update the driver I use an updated driver. Being a suspicious person, I'll lean toward they did just so I could have one less joy in my life. Damn.
