My JVC HM-DH30000 is set to arrive today via UPS. I'm definitely interested in buying 3-5 year extend service contract for this unit.

My dealer J and R only sells Warrantech contract, which is almost $180 for 5 years.

I've done some research. There are many cheaper alternatives out there.

GE is about $160 for 5 years
Philips Priority Service is only around $100
The NSI Warranty that onecall.com sells is less than $100

The only catch is that I must have purchased the VCR from the same dealer to buy the contract.

Personally I think Warrantech is overpriced. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Serive plans are tricky. I'm not a big fan of the third party plans because if the item can't be repaired all they do is give you cash back. And then you have to wait for them to attempt to repair it. I get a much warmer happy fuzzy feeling from the Circuit City plans because some of the items have loaner units, and if it can't be repaired it's not just original cash value. They will usually make sure the item you replace it with has similar features. I had a MD player go out. It was an open box item. The cash value wouldn't have covered a new one. They ate about $200 bucks upgrading me to a new MD. The plan was originally like $39.
