"Oculus" wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. First off, it takes too long to get going--arrive 20 minutes late and you haven't missed anything. Things pick up but then it just has nowhere to go by the final act. Not enough character development to get me to care about the welfare of the protagonists, and we can only have the rug pulled out from under our feet so many times before we just start disengaging--how many times can you say, "Oh, that part was just a hallucination?" Very little depth to the movie--I wish things were less telegraphed, and more mysterious. Maybe I'm being too hard on it--there was probably enough good stuff here to make a nice nasty little 60 minute movie, but unfortunately it runs over 100 minutes, it just didn't add up to anything in danger of becoming great. And some of the dialog was just bad.

I loved Jenny Wade in that show. She really pulled off being the demon turned human girlfriend role very well. Unfortunately her next gig "The Good Guys' (?) cop comedy with Colin Hanks didn't give her much of a chance to show off her comedy chops (or they didn't want to her too).

"Deadbeat" is actually a REAL Hulu Original and not a some imported property. It's shot in New York and has Danny DeVito's daughter as a co-star. Hulu+ has all episodes available.

I watched Paranormal Activity The Marked Ones, and I liked it! This series is getting long in the tooth but this one is probably the most polished one as far as this series goes. The whole time I was thinking how does this movie tie into the rest of the series, well the end tells all. The movie had some laughs, some action and scares. The ending really gave me the chills so I have to say this film was affective in the scare dept. Definitely worth the rental and I will say this is the 'Aliens' of the series because of some of the action.

I've been looking forward to its arrival from Netflix. The PA series gets mixed reviews around here, but I'm most definitely a fan. Good to hear!!

Depends on how you define "good." I got some yuks out of it but it is not Louis C.K. (Emmy winning) quality. You can probably at least see the first episode for free on Hulu itself to decide if you want to watch more.

I like the new "Paranormal Activity" because they took a different tact from the usual "here is the footage from the security cams." It's more like a 'V/H/S" story. I do have to kick myself and make sure I look at the emails Redbox sent me because the one yesterday did have a 50 cent off coupon. Usually the subject line indicates one but this just looked like "here's what to rent this weekend." I'll use it tomorrow. Maybe I'll rent "You're Next." BTW, episode 4 of "Deadbeat" is particularly hilarious.

I got one on Friday morning with the subject line that said "Start your weekend with these" with a "$1 off 2" code. I'm not sure if that's $1 off for each movie rental or $1 off the total.

Quickie Oculus review: I felt that the setup took way too long, the acting was beyond wooden, and when the good stuff happened, it was done in such a back-and-forth-in-time kinda way that the whole story got lost, plus there was never any explanation about why the mirror was haunted, or how it got that way (maybe preparing us for a sequel.) There were a few somewhat creepy scenes, but nothing that inspired seat-jumping. Rule #1 about scary movies - they should be scary. Barely a 2 out of 5 and I'm being generous.

You're Next was good and liked the Heroine of the film, it also had a decent amount of blood/killings. It reminded me of a less than sinister The Strangers, but it was still a decent horror flick.

Cool that people are enjoying PA The Marked Ones and I know those films could go either way.

Mine was just 50 cents off a rental. I decided to rent "Bag Man" which is an okay thriller as I was too lazy to drive a block away to the gas station which had "Nurse" available. I had reserved it but there was a glitch and when I went to pick up the disc I got two instead of one. I immediately return one of the discs and figured now I would have to go back home and contact Redbox support but the email showed no charge for the other disc because it was immediately returned.

She was top notch in that. I still can't decide if it was their plan for it to be the funniest comedy ever though.

Yeah, You're Next was mostly a letdown, especially being a Wingard film. I think The Strangers is significantly better.

Has anyone seen the trailers for Salem that is starting on WGN April 20th? Looks pretty tasty folks. DVR is set.

I just realized Karen Gillan was in this and that's why it stinks. She and Matt Smith wrecked Doctor Who as well.
