I see some cool lists already taking shape and I like what I see! I had to get my horror fix in and decided to watch The Crazies (2010) today. Fun bloody flick and the BD has decent A/V to boot!
Glad you had a good time. This time of year, the heat and humidity is a horror in itself.

I'm still not sure how I feel about that one. I might give it another spin. I've had that movie in the back of my mind since you mentioned it so tonight I decided to take a look at the extras. I dug the blu-ray out from the bottom of the pile and there wasn't anything "extra" on it except the audio commentary track.

30 Days of Night and Chernobyl Diaries are really good. Ghostbusters, while one of my fav films of alltime, i just dont consider a horror film, but its super.

As to the Hostel movies, you will love 1 and 2, to me they are much better than 3. I am gonna watch all three of them again this coming October.

The Cube movie is interesting for sure.

Enjoy!!

That's a long day. My youngest is doing fall softball and we had a double header yesterday. 6 hours in 90 degree heat, but very low humidity and I thought that was hot.

The bass in Crazies is very good! Good movie. The last part dragged for me but the first half is excellent and the scene in tent was a lot of creepy fun.

If anyone else has recommendations regarding slow walking zombie movies I'm all ears. I think I've seen it all but perhaps I might have missed some. I know this is blasphemy, but I'm not a fan of Italian/ Canadian Zombie flicks. I've yet to see Juan of the Dead... but that's a fast zombie flick if I recall.
French films Mutants (2009) and La Horde, also from 2009, are solid zombie flics.

I have not been too in to the Italian flics I have seen. But I have not seen a ton either...

Nice list. I enjoyed the first FEAST, need to find time to work on my list but this is what I have so far for first time views. Hoping to add some more to this list and then supplement with 10-15 of my favorites during October.

I didn't hate it but I will pass this year. My wife hated it and said it was garbage. Her idea of a good horror movie is anything with Vincent Price or old fashioned ghost stories. She has taken a liking to zombies and post apocalyptic stuff now. She hates over the top gore, torture, nudity, etc. and says if a movie has to have that in it then the story sucks. She has a very specific and narrow taste in horror movies so it takes us forever to find something we will both watch. I think the sweet spot for both of us is anything made in the 70's or 80's. Her favorites are The Exorcist and The Shining, followed by the original Halloween and things of that sort.

Cool TY! I'll check them out. I guess among the zombie crowd a few of the Italian flicks have cult status, but I didn't enjoy them. I think the famous one has an infamous scene where a girl gets a giant wood splinter from a door that goes through her eye? (it might have just been called "Zombie"), I mean it was ok, but the Italian-ness of it didn't give me the halloween-ish vibe I seek for October.

Good classics, but good luck finding much from the 70 and 80's without nudity - lol.

My wife does not care for gore or agony stuff either so I have to find more mainstream, or crossover, horror for her to watch with me. Like Prometheus, Pacific Rim etc.

I think it is probably historical context - at the time they broke ground etc. If you can appreciate that maybe it's better? But also the style is weird to me. I do get a big kick out of Euro trash horror. Is so awkward and different compared to what is normal here - but that is part of the charm. Suspira just didn't do it for me though. I don't think I am sophisticated enough to appreciate it.

Yep, noticed some of these titles on Amazon last night. Truthfully, was hoping to find The Howling streaming for free on Amazon Prime or Netflix. No go. Very interested to see it again, but not enough to buy it.

Another good list. I'm excited to see The Quiet Ones and Deliver Us From Evil. Those two are on my list for sure. 30 Days has always been a personal favorite and The Ring is near the top of the horror heap IMO. Livide and The Conjuring are also great watches. Not sure if you've seen the Grindhouse flicks, but just so you know.....Death Proof is not a horror movie. A great watch, no doubt about it......just not scary at all. More of a revenge thriller with the classic style of the one and only QT.

Yep, not bad. The first one was definitely superior IMO though. Great cinematography and surround presentation (especially the LFE). Very atmospheric.

Not quite horror but much in that vein is the British dark comedy "Sightseers" which is available on Netflix. It's about a particularly weird couple going on a trip across country.

The indie distributors will be rolling out this month their horror offerings in time for the Halloween season.

Hey guys, sorry I've been MIA lately, dealing with some very not fun personal stuff. October will be messy for me, at least the first half but I'll watch what I can and will have more time the second half of the month to try and catch up. I'm not making a list, don't have the time, but will keep one as i go like we always do. I still need to clean up the messy hyperlinks in my sig... ugh
