I had a very very close call back in the 80's. I was riding my KZ-400 home from work exiting the navy base at the back gate. There was a car ahead of me and a Bronco following pretty far behind me. The car ahead of me stopped quickly when he got to the guard shack at the gate. Traffic does not normally stop when exiting the base so it took me by surprise but I was following with enough distance to stop comfortably. I checked my mirror and saw the Bronco behind me coming up fast. I decided I best get out of the way so I pulled onto the right shoulder. Just as I got next to the stopped car the Bronco smashed into the rear end of it.
Dude isn't it kinda funny that motorcyclist always have to be more vigilant while riding along more than car folks....I always tend to think most good riders habits should translate to drivers as well. Good to hear you escaped that and you had your head on a swivel.
