Z Nation is a hoot. Can't wait for season 2. I recommend.

Watched The Signal last night. Good movie.

Uh you have Netflix, right? The entire first season of "Z Nation" is there and no commercials you need to skip.

My "found footage" binge led me to "Hangar 10" on Netflix which is a Brit attempt at the genre. Really the whole movie is about condensed in the trailer. If it had started at the 1 hour mark it would have been better.

Followed that with Spanish film called "Bloody April Fools" which was better and only had a few scenes with consumer cam. It must've been a 90 minute TV movie as it is 68 minutes long and the Spaniards are prudish like US broadcast TV is. It's target market would be 18-24. Unfortunately spoiled by subtitles that started falling behind the dialog later in the movie. Doesn't anyone at Netflix check their submissions?

I hate the horror "based on real events" genre.
To me, it's in the same category as the Sasquatch nonsense.

I have spent many hours on reddit this past few days. I read many "Scariest movies" threads and compiled a list of movies to watch this September/October that the GF and I have not watched yet. We like to start early since we tend to go to Haunted Attractions in October. I cross-referenced reddit suggestions with IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes and trailers to decide if worth watching or not.

The list, organized by year of release:

The Innocents (1961)
The Legend of Hell House (1973)
The Wicker Man (1973) - We tried to watch it once but it seemed strange, so we turned it off. Will have to try again with all the rave reviews on reddit.
The Omen (1976) - On Netflix - GF saw this already as a child, but she hardly remembers.
Communion (1989)
The Changeling (1980)
Lady in White (1988)
The Vanishing (1988)
Jacob's Ladder (1990)
In the Mouth of Madness (1994) - I love John Carpenter, not sure how I missed this one.
The Eye (Gin gwai) (2002) - We saw the re-make and loved the concept but felt it was weak. Had no idea it was based on a Japanese horror. We simply love Japanese horror.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Noroi: The Curse (2005)
The Strangers (2008)
[REC] 2 (2009) - Saw the first and it was pretty damn scary. Especially the ending!
Antichrist (2009) - On Netflix
Splice (2009)
The Loved Ones (2009)
The Crazies (2010)
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010) - On Netflix
Kill List (2011)
The Skin I Live In (2011)
The Tunnel (2011)
The Woman (2011)
Found (2012)
Resolution (2012)
The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
The Woman in Black (2012)
Evil Dead (2013) - We watched the first 3 last Halloween season. Re-make looks scary too!
The Sacrament (2013) - On Netflix - I was hooked just from the trailer.
Clown (2014)
Creep (2014) - On Netflix
Honeymoon (2014) - On Netflix
Starry Eyes (2014) - On Netflix

Edit, additional ones:

Poltergeist (1982) - GF already watched long ago but she doesn't mind watching it again.
Cure (1997)
Twin Peaks (1992)
Altered (2006)

We are VERY excited, as last year we were struggling to find good horror movies to watch towards Halloween that we had not seen. Have no idea how we missed all of these! Thankfully, much more to see!

Also, I am on the fence about the following movies. Any input?

Cold Fish (2010)
The Girl Next Door (2007)
Martyrs (2008) - People say this is the nastiest movie they have ever seen. I am not too into gore/torture but people say it is truly a scary movie and trailer did look tempting.
Mother's Day (2010)

Thanks!
Good looking list man! Regarding your question, The Girl Next Door and Mother's Day are both good. Martyrs is straight up brutal dude and certainly not for everybody.......Highly recommended

The Signal does have you guessing in spots, it almost seemed like if David Lynch did The Twilight Zone before the truth is revealed.

All great shows. The S2 finale of The Last Ship was last night. It's been renewed for a S3. Which is good because this is a really fun show.

Yeah, The Signal was tripped out. That's a perfect analogy, Lynch meets the Zone.

I haven't seen Lunopolis but I have seen Europa Report, it's more of a straight sci-fi type of movie and is worth watching.

TWD got pretty bad there for a while, the last couple seasons were pretty decent though for my tastes. It looks like it could go downhill again if they are not careful but I'm still on board for now. FTWD just really sucks at getting any hook in for me and the characters are just too damn softheaded to suffer any longer than I already have.

Watched It Follows last nite...errr, correction, TRIED to watch.

This seemed so much like it should be an episode of CW's Supernatural.

I had a hard time getting into It Follows too.

I'm still onboard with FTWD. Wish the junkie Johnny Depp kid would get eaten.

It was just poorly written...from plot to characters.
It's really TWD 2.0.

Can't argue with that. It's a boring and unlikable cast. The most interesting character is the chubby kid who wants his knife back. And they'll probably kill him off. Lol. I'm still onboard, hanging out on the Lido deck, waiting for Isaac to pour me a double.

I found the worst zombie movie ever made:

I just don't understand this thing at all.

It's dreadful from the start and I thought, "OK, it's deliberately so."
Cool, I love Z comedies and cheekily bad flicks.
So, I waited...and waited...and then skipped ahead...and then faced the god awful truth: it's in the same league as Plan 9 (and not in a good way either).

It's amazing how the producers managed to get Daryl Hannah, Shirley Jones, Anthony Michael Hall, Alan Ruck, all known and good actors into this waste of film stock.
I would LOVE to know the story of how that happened...

The food was fantastic everywhere I went, from Ted's Bakery to all of the food trucks around The North Shore, you really couldn't go wrong! Also since food/drink is a bit pricey in Hawaii, we went to Costco to offset some food/snack/alcohol consumption. I was a groomsman in my cousins wedding which was at a cool tiki bar/restaurant (http://www.lamarianasailingclub.com), that also served as a marina for boats. That was really fun to be a part of but my family had a great time staying at the North Shore because of the slower pace we like instead of staying in Waikiki. The flight was pretty long but my kids were behaving pretty good the whole time. All in all it was a great trip and relaxing even with my two kids! The ocean wears them out quickly and the time change equals the kids going to be promptly by 7:45pm.

Oh Oink, we had a rehearsal dinner at a microbrewery called Honolulu BeerWorks! http://www.honolulubeerworks.com/#beerworks-bio This place was really good for some food and beer. They do sell growlers there but only for togo orders. I asked my cousin about how popular microbrewery's are in Hawaii and he said it is catching on but most locals still prefer the store bought beer. Probably due to the cost of the microbrew beer itself which is a tad more that buying beer in the store.

Same thing happened to me on Kauai one year...it almost didn't end well for this old porker.

EVERYONE should go here for dinner with their companion at least once during a trip (there's at least 1 on every island):

It really does look like a nice little place for a beer and a sammich at lunchtime.

Thanx for the info.

Beers from small breweries do tend to be slightly more expensive, primarily because their costs for raw materials (per barrel) are higher than those of the giants.
But they are typically much, much better.

Glad you had a nice family trip.

I watched "It Follows" on DVD which had commentary. The director specifically did not want to do a standard teen drama. That's why he broke some of the rules of that genre. I like innovation like that because so many movie follow formula that unfortunately a lot of horror fans expect and if it isn't there they hate the film.
