AOT is probably on for this weekend for me. The anime series was pretty good and could lend itself to a deeper dive on the horror genre quite nicely.

1- The Babadook 2014 (FTV) Normally, I don’t like is it real, or not, movies. Is the Babadook a manifestation of a wounded, and slipping mind, or is he real and preys on that? But, this was so well done! I had to enjoy it!
The ending seemed a little odd. I was waiting for something to say the Babadook WAS real but it leans the other way. Killer audio track and really well made movie! 4 Scary Book Zombies

This movie has –

- A little vomiting

- A little boy that looks like the Babadook.

- Some awesome bass

- Bad birthday party

Best line If you touch my son again, I'll f#%king kill you!”

Oink - I think I tried to watch a Titans movie but did not work for me. Was odd because I liked the premise. Sometimes these manga flicks are too whiny with young people angst and is laborious.

Welcome back Darth!!

What is this "group watch" business? You all just agree to see it the same day?

Pretty much that and also so we can chit chat about the movie.

Good to have you back Scott!

I think I am going to start off with Unfriended and then maybe something else today! Everyone looks like they are off to a great start!

Thanks! And I see @darthrsg is back as well. Wondering where you had gone to, Scott.

Gotcha on the 'group watch' sounds like fun but was sort of expecting you all to do a livestream or something. Yeah how bout that? Any legal way we could do a virtual movie group watch? That would be fun.

1. Exists (2014)- {3.25/5} Amazon Streaming (FTV) Eduardo Sanchez in the director's chair in this one. Overall, a pretty entertaining flick with some definite elements of Blair Witch (almost too similar during certain parts). I've seen bits and pieces of Squatch movies in the past and this one is most certainly the best of the bunch. I would imagine most folks in these parts would enjoy it. A good start to Horrorfest 2015.

2. Creep (2014)- {3.5/5} NF Streaming I would imagine that this movie would not appeal to everyone. It's a really slow burn that culminates fairly quickly in the final act. To someone like me though, this was right in my comfort zone. The story is completely different from anything I can recall seeing in the past and Mark Duplass (The League) does a fantastic job with his character. Definitely worthy of a recommendation if you can handle the slow anticipation and found footage aspect of it.

Kicked off October (well actually Sept 30th but it ended just after midnight so ok) with the classic Tucker and Dale vs Evil. This movie cracks me up. 4/5 crazy hillbillies.

Crimson Peak opens on the 16th (a Friday).
The tentative plan is to have what we are calling a "Group Watch" (5 of us have already decided to give it a go) of the movie, wherein everyone will get out to see a showing on either the 16th, 17th, or the 18th.
A content Blackout will be in effect during that time.
On Monday (the 20th), we can all share our experiences, not JUST the movie itself, but also quality of presentation, food, drink, company, etc.
IOW, everything we "experienced."
My guess is we will have some great stories to tell.

Should I start a separate thread to announce our plans and for the After-Party discussion?

We could do that (although the different time zones might be hard to coordinate), if everyone has NF streaming....

I've lurked on this thread for the past couple years and keep telling myself I'm doing the marathon some October. This year I'm definitely going for it! Not sure how much I'll actually post here but just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the movie reviews and lists, there is SO much horror out there it's sometimes hard to decide what to watch!

I'm starting tonight off easy with a couple of classics; either Halloween I and II or Nightmare on Elm Street 1 and 2. Haven't decided yet...

I am starting off this October with a bit of a lamb-ish entry. I actually have been up since 5:45am (cst) and so I started off watching a movie on my computer because it was a bit early to fire up the HT. I started off with The Fourth Kind on NF WI, but I only finished it after watching Unfriended.

I am also going to rate movies on a 1-5 scale (5 being awesome!) and put down either DVD, BD, NF/Amazon streaming. Also FTV means First Time View for the folks that might ask.

2015 HorrorFest!!!!

1 , Unfriended, BD FTV. I really liked the premise of this morality tale of how the youngins these days mess around with computers and thinking everything is '3rd person or anonymous'. Not realizing that bullying is well bullying no matter what format you use. I just wish this film had a better format than the one they used. It could have been much better with a 'traditional' teenage horror flick where bad kids get picked off one by one. I think this movie can go either way from either Oinking it after the first 5 minutes or actually watching the whole thing. Most older teenagers would probably dig this film. 2.5 Computer Screens.

2 The Fourth Kind, NF WI (HD/5.1 Lossy).

I decided to watch this great mix of 'found footage' and tradition movie story telling. I watched this a few years ago and was completely blindsided how disturbing this is. Now if you buy into the story and really like the Alien Abduction sub-genre of Horror, this might tickle your fancy! Stars the hot Milla Jovovich and other actors you might recognize. I mean anyone should be terrified of a force that can come and take you away, and there isn't anything you can do about it! This a decent presentation on NF, and worth a watch! 3.5 Flying Saucers

Welcome to the new folks to our Horror Show! Enjoy your stay and enjoy some good Horror movies!

I also find that there are gems on tv channels like TCM, AMC, IFC during the month of October, so if you cannot stream it, disc it, you might just have to tune in a channel on your display!

Speaking of Sorority Row, Fox has that Scream Queen show and it's pretty batshirt crazy funny (at least the two episodes I've seen). The for serious serious horror fans are hating it so you know it's good.

I kicked things off this evening The Return of the Living Dead and it was a hoot! Great combination of horror and comedy. I'd seen bits and pieces of it in the past but this is the first time I've seen it in full from front to back and it was a strong way to start off my marathon this year. 4 out of 5.

And since I'd forgotten to include Dracula Untold in my final list, I decided to get it out of the way tonight also since both movies were only around 90 minutes each. Actually I have to say that I liked this one. The story was not what I would have expected (and I mean this in a good way), the action was decent, and it was an easy film to follow. Not at the pinnacle of greatness or anything but fun to watch through. 3.5 out of 5.

I don't know what I will watch next, I will just wing it and try to spread out the comedy/horror picks evenly throughout the month. The next movie will probably be on Saturday but maybe Friday depending how I feel when I get home from work. Great to see everyone posting their impressions of movies they've watched already!

Chris Lee pic o' the day...

Instead of doing a regular horror-thon, I've decided to do a "Lee-athon" this month. Sir Christopher Lee's acting career spanned nearly 7 decades, and included over 275 credits in movies, TV and other media. One of his last, and greatest roles (imo) was as "Saruman, the White" in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. So that's where my journey into this prolific, and also much-beloved actor's work shall commence.

These are some of the other films on my Lee-athon to-watch list...
Corpse Bride (2005)
The Creeping Flesh (1973)
The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
The Devil Rides Out (1968)
Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (1965)
Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972)
Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968)
Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966)
The Gorgon (1964)
Horror Express (1972)
Horror Hotel/City of the Dead (1960)
Horror of Dracula (1958)
The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959)
The House That Dripped Blood (1971)
Island of the Burning Damned (1967)
The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959)
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
The Mummy (1959)
The Oblong Box (1969)
The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970)
Rasputin: the Mad Monk (1966)
Revenge of the Sith (2005)
The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973)
Scars of Dracula (1970)
Scream and Scream Again (1970)
She (1965)
The Skull (1965)
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970)
The Three Musketeers (1973)
The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960)
The Wicker Man (1973)

Don't know how many I'll get to before the month is out, but I own most of these on DVD or Blu-ray, and have no problem recommending any of them to others, including the B-grade flicks like Horror Express. So I invite others to also join in the Lee-festivities.

The BD player's warmed up, the corn is apoppin, and the elves, orcs, dwarves, trolls, and wizards await...

1. Cannibal Holocaust (FTV)
I don't really know what to say about it, I'd never actually seen it but the most shocking thing to me about it in this day and age is knowing that they actually killed all the animals on set. But I plan on seeing Green Inferno at some point and would be pointless without having seen this first.
