Not as dark as Arrow or sometimes The Flash. And definitely has strong female characters, not another Smallville, it'll grow on you.

I have a Sony rear-projection display, an SXRD model, still going strong since the day we got it circa 2008 (save for replacing a lamp thus far) and its 1080p picture continues to impress when we view Blu-rays on it; we would like to get a 4K set but at a much larger size than we have now, and these just aren't in the cards price wise for us anytime soon...
The SXRD is an excellent RPTV.
My Mits. still looks good with BDs, but 4K content is coming on now (finally) and from what I have seen it looks pretty amazing.

I have thought about it for many years.
The bottom line is I just don't have a room decent enough to make it right.

Not quite.

I'm replacing the display, the pre/pro, and the streamer with the new 4K Amazon FireTV.
When Oppo comes out with their UHD-BD player in early 2016, I'll be buying it too.

Are the UHD-BD backward compatible with current players? Understanding you miss the 4k.

No, you will need a UHD-BD player to watch the 4K disks.
However, UHD-BD players will be compatible with current BDs, DVDs, etc.

Quick question...

I'm trying to debate the picture quality differences between the best TVs and the "better" projectors. To make this simple, would you take a 100" TV or a projector with a 100" screen?

It all comes down to price and how to get a tv that big into your home! I love my pj but one of those OLED 100" tvs would be awesome! I do think a 4K tv will have a 'better' picture, but those 4K pjs are pretty damn awesome! I hopping to upgrade to at least a 120" and hopefully a Sony 4K pj when I move back to Cincy.

Oink! Love the tv and that was one I really liked when I saw it at Best Buy!

Boy oh boy, that's a toughie.

Since I haven't seen the 2 side-by-side, I'll sidestep the PQ shoot-out and look at other differences off the top of my head that might sway a buyer even more:

1) Portability --- PJ
2) Lighting requirements --- TV
3) Wow factor --- TV
4) Simplicity of use --- TV
5) Flexibility --- PJ

I nearly went with the top-of-the-line Samsung (non-curved).
It comes in 78" and is exactly the size I wanted.
However, it doesn't have 3D or FALD like the Sony.

I have had good luck with Sammies.
I still have one of these beauties:

Thanks for the replies.

What are the reasons that a TV might have a better picture than a projector? If I recall correctly, a projector is likely to deliver a more "cinematic" picture.

oink, you stated that the "wow factor" goes to the TV. Why is that?

Thanks

I would say pjs like the Sony 600es either matches or exceeds most high end 4K sets, but at a $14k msrp it isn't cheap. But having a movie experience at 100" plus is nothing short of jaw dropping.

For most folks though tvs are just easier to get into. I love my pj, but you need the room for it and light control to get a fantastic picture.

In theory, nothing.
However, unlike a TV, a PJ needs a very dark room and a great screen to show off what it can do.

Quote:

That is a term that is a little misleading IMO.
In delivers a more "cinematic picture" in terms of the image most resembles a typical Cineplex image (lower in light output).

PJs are not uncommon.
However, a 100" TV really IS rare.
Anyone who has one will be the talk of the party.

I hope the new TV has a decent surround system for it.

I see that the kiosk is getting some of the "Halloween" season releases the next few weeks including "Krampus" which probably means that Hulu and Netflix will be getting some of these too. The distributors don't like NF and Hulu to announce those in advance as the kiosks will complain.

What gear are you replacing? That Marantz is pretty high tech for such an old timer. Theres no rotary dial or VHS slot. When it all arrives remember to post some pics.
